Hey GMATmonster -
Thanks for the note. I’m glad that you have a range of schools that you’re looking at. You might want to narrow this down a bit - most people apply to 5-6 schools.
Your GMAT score is ok, it’s going to be competitive at most of these schools. It’s a bit low for Kenan Flager, but it’s in the range. Bottom line - your GMAT score isn’t going to help you a ton, but it’s not going to be what keeps you from getting in either. What I tell people who are looking at retaking the GMAT is that at this point you need to consider the risk/reward. Were you testing significantly higher during practice exams? Is there a reason that you think you can do significantly better? Do you have the time to invest in studying for the GMAT AND prepare your essays? Unless you think you can do a lot better, at this point my advice would likely be to focus on your stories and essays. Every applicant that I have ever worked with has significantly underestimated how much time the essays take. II did too when I was applying.
Your undergrad GPA isn’t great, but mechanical engineering is going to give you some leeway. What was your graduate GPA? Fair to assume that you did ok in your quant classes? That’s the biggest flag that adcoms look for, so a 3.2 GPA with strong performance in quant shouldn’t be as big of an issue. The Q48 is going to help you as well here.
Your work experience sounds ok. I really like the fact that you’ve managed your own projects, as you’ll likely be able to speak to the challenges that come with seeing projects through to execution. It would be helpful if you could point to examples of how you influenced other people during this process as those types of examples will speak to your leadership experiences and abilities.
Hope this helps! Please feel free to reach out if you want to discuss further.
Kindly,
Meredith
