Hi guys, I gave GMAT last year (Nov'15). Please have a look at my profile below. I am planning to apply to ISB in R2. Please evaluate my profile and let me know which other colleges I should apply to (I am open to applying in Asia and Europe as well but have financial constraints, so aiming for ISB)

Indian-Male
Age-25
GMAT -730 ; Q-50 V-39 AWA-4 IR-7
Experience: 42 months (Marketing Consulting-30 months & IT software engineer-12 months) US MNCs india centre
Additional qualification: CFA level 1 cleared; Applied for level 2 in Jun'17
French language DELF-A1 diploma certified
Community service- Involved in teaching children from last 2 years
Graduation- Bachelors in Information technology with honors (GPA- 3.12) from state university
Senior secondary (12th) - 78% ; Higher secondary (10th) - 84%
Recommendations: Current Managers from top b-schools and Good to excellent recommendation is expected

You stand a good chance (at ISB), though you'd be benchmarked against the large number of applicants in the Indian IT applicant pool, the single largest segment at any school. You'd need to present your credentials in a coherent manner in the application package and essays. You'd have to drum up the consulting aspects.

Positives:
1) I am guessing work ex is at one firm. Is the shift from development to Pre-Sales Consulting a Promotion? If yes, then it'd seem good linear work ex at just one firm, with steady progression, which is a strong indicator of leadership and management potential.
2) Additional interests: Finance - Accelerate to the next level of CFA at the earliest.
3) Community Service: Is this part of any organized non-profit venture? If yes, strong positive.
4) You would have about 48 months work ex, by the time you get in. PAR!

Negatives:
1) Undergraduate brand and GPA aren't great.
2) A1 is beginner French. Get to conversational level quickly.

You look like you are on the right track for ISB. I encourage you to keep learning about ISB- reaching out to current students- understand how you can add value there. That will also help set you apart.

Hi delson91,

You aren’t off on anything particular. The reason why I use the word ‘off’ is that once you’re around the average test score, average work-ex etc., what matters a lot at the top schools is the quality of your professional experience.

People from IT background regularly get into ISB, and they’re generally the ones who’ve more-than-normal career progression, impact at the workplace or outside, leadership experiences, and problem-solving instances to highlight in their application. (There is reason why professional experience occupies the most real estate in the resume.) Once you’ve basic things sorted out (test score around the average etc.), those things will help you cross the line. So, dig out these experiences and instances, articulate reasons for any assertions, and show fit to make it to your target school.
