Hello StratusMBACounselor! I want to apply to MBA next year (and actually start the MBA in 2018) and would highly appreciate an honest review of my profile. Suggestions on a global application strategy are also welcome!

My Profile

Nationality: Brazilian
Age: 28 years
Gender: Male
GMAT score: 770 (Q51 V44)

Work experience: 4.5 years
Industry: Renewable Energy

I joined a big energy manufacturer in 2010 through a special program in which the company financed my two-year Master studies in France. After completing my Master, I had a job offer in the R&D department, where I have been working since (across different projects). Currently an R&D program manager in addition to performing technical work (simulation, testing, software development, etc.). Also supervising a contractor (software developer).

Education:
Master of science in Mechanical Engineering from Grenoble INP - ENSE3 (France). With honors.

Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil). Consistently ranked as the best undergraduate course for Electrical Engineering in Brazil.

Exchange student (6 months) in Electrical Engineering at Michigan Technological University (US). Full scholarship (tuition + living costs) from Brazilian government. Dean’s list (GPA 3.75/4.00).

Extracurricular activities:
• Member of the company’s guitar club (weekly practice + annual presentation)
• Volunteer in institution that helps international students in France (math and French support)
• Globetrotter: passion for traveling (Argentina, United States, Canada, UAE, over 15 countries in Europe and many places in Brazil)

Languages: Portuguese (native), English and French (fluent), Spanish (intermediate)

Short-term career goal: Management consulting or Leadership Development Program in Energy or Technology company
Long-term career goal (more than 5 years post MBA): manager/director at an Energy or Technology company

Target schools: INSEAD, MIT Sloan, Rotman (special interest in living in Canada post-MBA), IE

Thanks in advance!
Pedro

Hi pedropereira! What an impressive background you have! I see some great things in your future... Let me comment below on your profile...
My Profile

Work experience: 4.5 yearsI would call this the sweet spot of work experience....

Target schools: INSEAD, MIT Sloan, Rotman (special interest in living in Canada post-MBA), IEI think you have a great school list- I am working right now with a client on Rotman and I am really impressed by the program- some really unique hands-on learning experiences. I encourage you to do some research now- even going to visit the school and learning how you can add value- so that when you do apply you have this well thought out. I also like INSEAD. MIT Sloan is just tough because the odds are low- but I really like your profile for them- you are coming from a geographic that is not over-represented and you have impressive stats and you have good work experience- MIT will want to know more about WHAT you have done... so don't leave that out when applying- and show them some love too- MIT wants to know you want them and ONLY them... so go visit.... talk to students there... I think some of the programs in US close to energy in Texas- like Texas or Rice might also be interesting to throw in the mix...

We'd love to help you get ready this year in a pre-professional program- where we can assess you in all areas the year before applying so you are FULLY Strong in all areas by the time you apply... To learn more- look at this link to talk to us about it...
