- Male
- Dual Citizen: Filipino and US
- Born in the US but lived my whole life in the Philippines
- Turning 26 this December
Work Experience - total around 5 years at matriculation
- Did 1 year in a boutique alternative investment manager
- Now in my 3rd year in Corp. Dev for one of the largest corporations in the Philippines
- Promoted twice - once in my first job and once in my second job
GMAT: 740
Education
- Math in Top 3 university in the country
- GPA: 2.5
- CFA Charterholder
Extracurriculars
- Opened my own neighborhood sundry store. Operated for a few months and made some money but had to close down because there wasn't enough foot traffic
- Been doing volunteer work the past 5 months - teaching financial literacy classes to less fortunate
Goal
- Corp Dev Strat for a F500 in the US
- Eventually go back to the Philippines to do Corp Dev or start my own fund

- There's a lot to like about your profile: solid work experience and career progression, good GMAT, interesting cross-cultural perspective, etc. However, I do have a question for you about your GPA - is it 2.5 out of 4.0? How does that rank compared to the rest of your class? In the US, that's a pretty low GPA and could be an issue for the top schools, which is why I ask. Lastly, your extra-curriculars look pretty light.
- When you ask if the schools will consider you to be an international applicant - for what purpose(s) are you asking? In your application, you'll have the opportunity to note what citizenships you hold and you would include both your US and Filipino ones.
- To strengthen your candidacy, I would suggest continuing to excel in your career and seek opportunities for leadership / impact (that will make for great stories in your essays), deepen your involvement outside of work and find a way to step up as a leader and make a real difference in your community or towards a cause that you're passionate about (i.e. go above and beyond volunteering for a few classes), and consider taking some additional courses to help offset your undergrad GPA if it is as low as it seems (if not, you can ignore that last recommendation).

My GPA is a 2.5/4 which is about average by my school’s standards. Our school doesn’t curve grades so it’s not common to receive A’s. No excuse for the low GPA other than being unfocused and immature. Would you say passing the CFA exams help lessen adcoms’ fears of my academic capabilities? The exams are relatively quant-heavy and were taken more recently than my college classes. Additional classes to offset my GPA aren’t really an option in the Philippines.
- I’m asking the international applicant question to figure out whether there would be a “diversity factor” considered in my application.
