Hello,
Will be grateful if you can evaluate my profile. Looking for a feedback on whether the programs that I am aiming for are a right fit for my profile and if there are any other programs that I shd be looking at
- 31/Indian Male
Exp Summary
- 9+ years of General Management & Management Consulting exp working with Global conglomerate. Incl 3 yrs of International postings in Europe. Most of my India based assignments were also with International focus.
- Elaborate Working Exposure to Multiple Industry Sectors (Energy, Telecom, Financial Services & IT)
- Selected for reputed & highly selective leadership development program for young managers (only 200 such managers have been selected in last 50 yrs of history of this programe btw current total employee strength of my conglomerate is nearly half million).
- Already on fast track career growth & Part of group's central resources which move across group companies.
- Consistently led & have been active participant of CXO sponsored organisational initiatives on areas of Strategy Implementation, Business Planning, M&A, Process Re-engineering, Cost Management, Change Management
- Generated real savings worth multimillion$$s thru consulting engagements
- Currently heading a commercial function for $1billion turnover division of Energy Company
Education & GMAT Score
- Graduate in Mechanical Engineering with 3.7 GPA from a reputed college
- GMAT - 710 (Q - 40, V - 48), AWA - 5.0 (First attempt)
Volunteering
Founded and jointly headed small social support group - which ran multiple education programmes for Children from Low Income families.
Why MBA
I am happy with what I have done so far with my career but for higher roles (both Indian and International) I feel there are glass ceilings especially if one has only an Undergraduate Degree and that too from not soo famous Indian Institute. Hence I am expecting an international MBA from reputed B-School to provide the necessary weight to my CV. Besides top B-school degree will also help me to strengthen up my international professional network which I am sure I will find lot of use for.
MBA Program Expectations
1. Good International Brand
2. Networking Opportunities
3. Low down time from active work
4. Relatively lesser investment - as I plan to take a sabbatical and self sponsor my study. Also want to return to India where with local salaries ROI may be further stretched.
5. Looking for Jan/Sept 2013 start of Program
Post MBA Plans
1. Will prefer to return to current employers but look for higher roles with accelerated growth
2. India or any other emerging economy based roles in General Management

For the European schools, you should be competitive enough that they're worth applying to (they are a little more forgiving of age compared to the US schools). What you need to do is to really highlight your international experience and exposure -- to get the adcom to strongly infer that you're not "fresh off the boat" if that makes any sense, since that would be the biggest concern when the incoming classes of these schools are full of expats who have worked and lived in different countries.
