Hey piyushgautam2004,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile looks good on the surface. On the academic end, your GMAT score falls within the range for the schools you target. To give your profile a boost on the academic front, I would also advise providing a little bit more information about your general statistics as well as details about any additional courses, certifications, and academic achievements. Meanwhile, to ease things out, I have listed down the average GMAT scores for your target schools

1. Olin School of Business- 700
2. Fisher College of Business- 673
3. UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School- 702
4. Emory University's Goizueta Business School- 700
5. Jones Graduate School of Business | Rice University- 705
6. Simon Business School- 680
7. Mendoza College of Business- 673
8. Kelley School of Business at Indiana University- 668

On the work front, I see an impressive profile. It would now be crucial for you to demonstrate significant impact in your work tenure and must specifically mention instances where you were in a leadership roles and helped your organization get through a challenging situation. You must highlight how you lead a team of 40 individuals and managed budgets worth rupees 400 crores. Additionally, be sure to emphasize your career progression and professional growth (Clearing Divisional Accountant Grade examination during your work).

Don't just list down your ECs; it sounds very general. Instead, emphasize the lessons learned, the difficulties encountered, the leadership responsibilities assumed, and a little more about the entire experience; this will help your profile stand out from the crowd. Being trained in Indian classical music and singing diversifies your profile. Also your award from the theater group is credible and must be mentioned to the AdComs appropriately. Speaking about all of this with enthusiasm will help you bring diversity to your applications and will let AdComs learn about other aspects of your personality. For instance, I suggest you go through our article on Significance of ECAs for MBA Application, to understand the importance of drafting exemplary ECAs essays!

Product Management is extremely broad when you consider the post-MBA goals. You would need to be clear about your short-term and long-term goals as well as respond to the AdComs' "Why an MBA?" question. The standout component of your application should also demonstrate how the schools will assist you in achieving your goals.Overall you have a good profile and do have a chance at schools you have listed. Finally, a lot will depend on how you connect the dots and build an engaging story around it. If you'd like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile inl length and further chances to the schools. Hence, if you’d like, feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi piyushgautam2004 hope this finds you well

While you did a good job of broadly shortlisting the target schools given your GMAT (which is average) and slightly unique work profile, your Post MBA ambitions appear to be somewhat disconnected at the present. You may not obtain the desired result in the highly competitive R2 unless you conduct extensive introspection on why product management (and what specifically in product?) is the best next step after an MBA and are equally capable of convincing the adcom.

At the moment, setting up your goal narrative correctly should be your priority.

Hope this brief write-up can give you a starting point, it would be even better if you connect with an expert.

Compelling Goals Strategy 101

Best wishes

Hey Piyush,

Your GMAT score of 680 and experience in the government sector are strong assets for your MBA application. The schools you listed, such as Olin, Fisher, UNC Kenan-Flagler, Emory Goizueta, Rice Jones, Simon, Mendoza, and Kelley, are well-regarded, but admission is competitive.

To increase your chances, you may also consider MBA programs with a focus on technology, entrepreneurship, or innovation, such as Stanford Graduate School of Business, UC Berkeley Haas, MIT Sloan, or Harvard Business School.

Your background in accounting, finance, and management, as well as your experience leading teams, will help you stand out. However, your GPA, essays, recommendations, and interview performance will also play a role in the final decision.
