Hi Paul –
Thank you in advance for your evaluation.
Target Schools:
Wharton, Chicago, Columbia, NYU
Background:
27 years old Indian male; born and grew up in the US
Academics:
BS in Computer Engineering from a Top 25 University in the US, GPA 3.5/4.0
MS in Systems Engineering from a Top 25 University in the US, GPA 4.0/4.0
GMAT: 730 (49Q, 41V) / 5.5 AWA
Work Experience:
Top Defense Contractor
2 years in an Engineering Leadership Development Program. Completed four rotations.
2 years developing financial software systems
Top Publishing Firm:
1 year developing financial software systems
I do not have any managerial experience. However, I have quite a bit of experience in leading teams of 2 – 7 people on developing software solutions.
Also, I may be quitting my full time job in the next few weeks to start my own consulting firm as an independent IT consultant. Considering the resulting entrepreneurial experience, would this significantly increase my admissions potential?
Extracurricular Activities:
Minimal involvement in extracurriculars as an undergrad.
Decent involvement with several charitable organizations over the past 5 years (fundraising, teaching children, etc). No leadership roles.
Heavy involvement in company committees/organizations while in the leadership development program. Headed up a 17 person committee and led a group of 6 in an unpaid software development effort of over 200hrs.
Earned my MS part time, while working full time.
Why MBA?
I would like to get a more solid foundation in business, specifically in finance and entrepreneurship. I would also like to make a career change.
Career Goals:
Short term: strategy consulting
Tong term: venture capital.
In both capacities, I plan to concentrate in technology. Is this a reasonable career progression for the adcom?
I would appreciate your evaluation of my profile for the target schools listed. Do you think I stand out compared to other Indian IT/Engineering male candidates? Anything in particular that I should emphasize to separate myself from this group? Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.
Thanks!
