Hi Everyone,

I belong to the extra competitive pool of Indians, but thankfully I am not an Engineer.

Here's a bit on my profile

0. Gmat 720 (Q49, V39)
1. Work ex of 3 years as of now, in I-Banking research with a very reknowned MNC.
2. Good career progression.
3. Bachelor's in Economics, with average grades.

I want to pursue a career in M&A (I-Banking).

Could anyone advice on colleges I should be applying to?

Many thanks in advance!

Hey there,

As you are aware about the competition and also as mentioned you have average grades in your graduation, I would suggest you to consider reatking GMAT if and only if you can add 20-30 points in a minimum case.

While assessing your application, top b-schools looks for candidates who have demonstrated leadership qualities in their professional or personal lives. Leadership qualities don’t necessarily mean leading teams – they could also mean the initiatives you had taken, your achievements, impact-orientation and career progression.

Considering the information you have provided, below mentioned are some of the b-schools you should consider while applying.

Columbia Business School
Wharton School of Business
Chicago Booth
NYU Stern
Georgetown McDonough
Cass Business School

Though it's tough to receive calls from top 3 b-schools if in case you add 20-30 points in your GMAT it would slightly be helpful.Top B-Schools like Harvard, Stanford Wharton looks an ideal candidates carrying High Academic Ability, Impact Leadership and communication skills, Clarity of Goals and Contribution and Passionate. Make sure you build an excellent story and present it in a very professional and simple language. Try to stand out rather fitting in which makes your profile unique.

Please free to reach us out on +91 9980044412 for free profile evaluation from top b-schools alumni like INSEAD, Wharton, Tuck

You can also evaluate your profile by using our ingenious tool called B-School Selector. B-School selector is an intelligent B-Schools shortlisting tool designed by the team of expert consultants graduated from Ivy League B-Schools. This tool provides the list of B-Schools where you have fair chances of getting an admission based on certain parameters like GMAT Score, Work Experience, International Work Experience and Academic Scores. You need to retake the GMAT - there is still time to improve that.

Beyond that, school selection will come down to more specifics of your profile. Poor grades can be a roadblock with some schools, less than average experience can be another one.

I can help you with your GMAT - no doubt that we can push it by 20-40 points with the right strategy.

Hey GMBA85
Thanks for posting. So even though you are not an engineer, your demographic is still super-competitive. If you want to crack a top US b-school, I'd like to see 750+. Also, there's a lot we don't know about you. University quality, GPA, extracurriculars. All of that needs to be stellar to make this happen. (When you say "average grades," I get a little worried.) Try the GMAT again and put together a really broad b-school strategy for yourself. Do some reach schools and then make sure you have some safeties in there as well, where your GMAT is 40+ points over a school's average.
I hope that helps a bit!
Krista
