Hello,
Can you evaluate my profile of my profile for full-time MBA admissions for Fall 2011? I'm targeting the following schools:
HBS
Stanford
Wharton
Kellogg
Sloan
Columbia
[should I add a non-top 10 as a safety?]
Asian American male (25 years old at application, 26 at matriculation)
-My post-MBA goal is corporate strategy, but not at a consulting firm. My first job gave me a good transition into business and my second MC job gave me a good perspective on strategy. Ultimately, b-school will help me complete the transition to do strategy level work for a single company, within the industry I'm aligned to.
Undergrad: top 10 national (Columbia/Duke/Penn level), graduated in 2007 with a BA in Math
GPA: 3.5-3.6/4.0
GMAT: 780/5.5 AWA
4 years of work exp at matriculation:
2 years at a respectable non-MBB consulting firm (Booz/Oliver Wyman/Monitor), but the industry I'm aligned to is tops in the field.
Prior to the above, 2 years at a boutique economic consulting firm:
-Early promotion to junior manager
-Early management and sales experience, have had up to two people reporting to me on new client projects
-Spearheaded and standardized certain processes at my company, like recruiting, training, research consolidation, etc.
-Several international projects
Extracurrics, perhaps a bit light:
-College: One of the senior editors of a new magazine - oversaw recruitment, article selection, staffing, etc. for my segment of the magazine
-Currently: tutor reading to a single impoverished teenager in my city, set curriculum with other tutors to customize his learning; I've made an impact to the point where other tutors are remarking to me about how much he's improved since I joined the group, and that they don't observe this much improvement in the other students.

You have a competitive profile for your target programs. Although I am normally a big fan of applying to a safety school, in your case, given your age and impressive qualifications, I would not recommend a safety. If necessary, reapply next year.
