I'm looking for your help in evaluating my profile for admission into a specific list of B-schools that I'm targeting. Below is an overview of my profile:
Background:
Native - Indian
Age - 27
Sex - Male
GMAT - 660 (Q 48 V 33 IR 5 AWA 6.0)
MBA entry plans - Fall 2016 or Spring 2017
Professional life:
Work experience - 49 Months
Industry - 1 year in market research; 3 years till now in Management consulting (Mckinsey & Co.)
Specific industry - Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare in Emerging Markets (specifically Africa, Middle East, Turkey and Eastern Europe)
Designation - Senior Analyst
International Exposure - Yes, have worked on client projects in UAE and Turkey
Recommendations - Can get great recommendations from Director and Partner level colleagues in Mckinsey that I work with directly
Academics:
Undergrad - Bachelors in Technology (B.Tech) in Biotechnology
University - SRM University, Chennai (India)
CGPA - 9.03 (out of 10) which translates to a 3.95 in US scale
Class XII (CBSE board) - 80% (Science)
Class X (CBSE board) - 91% (Scholarship holder)
Extra-curriculars:
- Nothing much since college
- Participated & organized college fests, presented review papers in national level conferences/symposiums
- Co-founder and Editor of the Newsletter for the Department of Biotechnology in college
- Participated as Volunteer for Community led Environment Action Network, Delhi and Delhi Environment Action Network for 2 years in school.
- Poster selected for an Environmental awareness exhibition held in Nishinomiya, Japan.
Target B-Schools:
- US 15-40 colleges:
Indiana University (Kelley); UNC Kenan-Flagler; Emory University (Goizueta); Notre Dame (Mendoza); and others
- Indian B-schools that offer 1-year MBAs:
IIM Ahmedabad/Bangalore/Calcutta; XLRI; SP Jain; ISB
- European 1 year MBAs/Masters:
SDA Bocconi; HEC Paris; ESCP Europe; Mannheim Business School
SCHOLARSHIPS:
The main reason why I'm trying for the above schools is because, as per my research, they offer a lot of scholarships and full-tuition waivers. Considering that I can't afford an expensive MBA, I want to try for colleges that can give me full-tuition scholarships. So this is one of the biggest factors in my application and MBA decisions.
QUESTIONS:
1) How good (or bad) is my profile for the colleges that I mentioned? (except for the Indian colleges, for which I don't have enough work experience)
2) For the B-schools in US and Europe that I mentioned, what are the chances of getting a scholarship for a guy with my profile?
3) Does a 700+score help/guarantee a scholarship? (I'm planning to retake GMAT for the Indian B-schools anyway)
4) Any other suggestions or tips to improve my profile before I start applying next year for 2016 entry?

Thanks for your post and all the detail. Happy to provide some thoughts!
1) Your work experience is fantastic. If you had more involvement and a stronger GMAT, we'd be sitting pretty here. But, unfortunately, that isn't the case. Your involvement is weak. Now, that said, there is probably stuff you do for McKinsey you haven't mentioned here that would count for that so that'll help. Retake the GMAT if you can. For most schools, merit based aid looks at your GMAT first. You have this amazing company on your resume but the GMAT is really dragging you down!
2) Difficult to say but see #1. If you up your GMAT, for example, that makes a big difference! By the way - when it comes to scholarships - no one can give you even an accurate estimate. In our profession we can fairly accurately gauge chances for programs you have in mind but scholarships have too many wildcards to be predictable in any meaningful way.
3) Guarantee? No. Help? Yes.
4) MEANINGFUL INVOLVEMENT! Think about your story holistically and then go do something outside of client work. That doesn't mean help the poor. Unless you want to, in which case go for it! But if there is something else close to your heart, that's fine! Just do something with IMPACT AND SCOPE outside of client work. It can even be thought leadership or recruiting for McKinsey.

Hi Bhavik,
Thanks for your great response. I'm definitely going to retake the GMAT and will be targeting a 720+, so that should definitely help.
For the involvement part, I had completely overlooked the stuff that I have in my firm. (you see so many stories of social work and start-ups that you start considering only that as meaningful involvement). Just to give you an idea on what I've been up to:
1) In terms of recruiting/mentorship/unit contributions:
- I help in recruiting for my practice (the pharma team) across all our hubs globally.
- I've played mentor roles to 2 new joinees in my team over the last 2 years
2) In terms of thought leadership:
- I've helped in the building of the regional pharma practice in the Middle East & Africa region
- I've participated in a global event within the firm, where teams are required to present new innovative ideas that can be funded & commercialized into business models by the firm - my team was one of the semi-finalists
- I'm constantly involved in the generation of new knowledge & content with respect to the expertise area that I've developed
On the whole, I'm quite passionate about recruiting/mentoring/talent development, and I keep looking for ways to get involved in that.
Additionally, I also wanted to run by the goals that I have in my mind. Post-MBA, I want to get into strategy development side of pharma/healthcare industry. I'm also open to program management roles in health institutions like Gates Foundation or Clinton Foundation. Considering this, do you think the list of B-schools that I have in mind from US and Europe is a good one? Are there any other B-schools that you would recommend for my goals?
Any thoughts on the above?
