Hi guys!
I would be very grateful if you will help me to evaluate myself.
First of all, I'm not including GMAT, because that's part of the reason I created this post. I want to select schools that will receive my score report (5 schools).
I am currently around 720-730.
So, my background:
Age 28 (soon 29).
Male, Russian minority.
Average Russian private college, GPA 3.2 (out of 4). Finance.
Career:
Moscow Big4 Audit for 5 years, promotions each year with "exceeded expectation" assessment. One of the top performers in TMT (Telecom, Media, Technology). Managed teams of 2-10 people. Audited largest Russian companies and branches of international companies, was one of the lead seniors in a huge London IPO.
Next - financial controller in a branch of an international medical equipment company in Moscow for 2 years, no people under management, no promotions (only CFO and MD above me).
I find my weak points are following:
Low GPA from a relatively unknown college, though I did outperform people from top colleges during my time in Big4.
Career path - due to economic situation, B4 didn't want to promote people in a certain year, creating some artificial obstacles, so a lot of people, including me, left for a better pay.
Extra-curriculars:
Unfortunately, my schedule in Big 4 was too tight to squeeze anything in, except for necessities (like sports/health/family/relationships).
Goal
PE, MBB. Or a product manager in a technology firm/start up.
Target schools:
Kellogg, Ross, MIT, Haas, Booth. Probably, Duke and Dartmouth. Obviously HSW, my dream school being Stanford (just a useful piece of information I assume).
I want to finish 2 years FT MBA in US, that will be recognizable outside the US (as an MBA, not because they have a good sports team or represent an Ivy league).
a year ago I already had an evaluation from Insead representative, he said that my profile is good for them (they selected me among other 9 guys from a pool of >500 applicants for these 1on1 meetings).
Currently, by number of people I was told that due to situation in Russia, applicants are having tough time, and the rate of rejections became substantially higher, though number of applicants decreased.
What do I need to succeed? Which schools I should select as a goal/stretch/safety?
Should I cancel any score below 740-750? Is there actually any bias towards Russian candidates in 2015-2016, can I overcome that?

Thanks for the post! Sorry for the delay - we were out celebrating the 4th of July! So there is a lot in your profile that I like. I'm not sure what "Russian Minority" might mean but, if you are indeed a minority, then that serves up some great examples of overcoming adversity! Your undergrad major is in Finance which is great for bschools. You worked at a B4 and did really, really well (which is what's important). And your new role seems interesting. It appears to be a step up and, in all honesty, probably a good idea anyway. You're probably getting close to the plateau at the Big 4 firm anyway. Your goals make sense generally speaking. Maybe not PE but the MBB path works.
Ok, so that said, where you went to school and your GPA isn't perhaps the best. That'll hurt a bit and place more emphasis on your GMAT. Also, your lack of involvement is a flag. BUT - I'm not sure if that's the case. Those big firms require a ton of involvement within the firm to get the highest rankings. If you consistently exceeded expectations, you probably were involved in firm activities? If so, that counts! Don't sell yourself short!
Don't worry about Russian applicants as a whole. To be honest, our Russian clients haven't been having any issues. So from our perspective, it's business as usual. And your conversation with the INSEAD director is super promising!
Now, to your most pressing concern - which schools to pick on the GMAT report. The answer? None. And no, don't cancel it if it's below a 750 - that's ridiculous. But the reason I say not to pick a school is because it isn't required. You self report on applications anyway and only need to send an official report once you get in. So just don't pick any.
Once you have a real score in hand, then let's talk about schools and strategy, sound good?

Hey Bhavik, I don't get your logic, submitting 5 schools on the day exam is free, while doing it later will result in a considerable fee.
Anyways, I got 750 (Q49, V42, IR8), unfortunately I failed in Verbal for some reason, though I considered it to be stronger than my quant. Anyways, does this change anything?
I started my process with Kellogg, Booth, Stanford and Wharton, later I will start Berkeley and Duke and then Tuck. What do you think?
