I actually think this is a stronger profile than it may look at first glance.

Female engineer from NIT, 7+ years at ONGC, GATE AIR 94, promotion, working across operations, contracts, training, and now building an LMS initiative gives you a lot of depth. Being the only female engineer at a field installation is also a nice leadership/resilience angle.

The 685 FE is good enough to be competitive for ISB. I wouldn't be worried about the score.

For IIM A and IIM B executive programs, you're definitely in the conversation as well.

The biggest thing I'd focus on is not listing responsibilities. Your application should highlight impact, what improved because of you, what initiatives you drove, and what changed for the organization. The LMS project and the passion-sharing initiative are actually pretty interesting stories if you can show results.

Overall, this feels like a profile that could do quite well with strong essays and interviews.

Yours seems to be a very technical profile, closely related to Chemical Engineering.

Make sure your goals are closely aligned as well.

Hi,

Your UG GPA is slightly on the lower side, but it is not a deal breaker. Your extracurriculars look decent as well.
At this stage, start thinking about your post-MBA goals and the kind of roles you want to target. Having more details around your work experience and impact will help evaluate your profile better.
There is no guaranteed safe score, but aiming for a GMAT Focus Edition score of 675+ would help you remain competitive.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

I'd say you're definitely in the running for Indian School of Business.
The EV startup experience is a plus, and leading a 100+ member club gives you some leadership stories as well. The biggest weak spot is the 6.95 CGPA, so I'd try to compensate with a strong GMAT.
Target 685+ to be competitive, 705+ if you want to feel more comfortable.
Focus less on your job responsibilities and more on what impact you've had. That's what will make the difference 👍

Hi RustedSteel,

Best wishes with your MBA journey. While a GMAT FE score of 675+ will definitely put your profile in the pool, it is important that you focus on your post MBA goals, story arc, and a strong narrative to bolster your case. To overcome the impact of lower than the thresh-hold GPA, you need to highlight your leadership & co-curricular activities and demonstrate how these skills fit into the larger narrative. As always, keep in mind that don't fixate over GPA and GMAT alone (while GMAT for Typical Indian Male is critical) - put effort on mapping your career outcomes and leadership experiences as well. All the best!

Regards,

Lakshya Admit

Hi rakku
Thanks for posting. We have evaluated your profile. Here is our assessment.

In the PSU energy pool applying to ISB and the IIMs, files tend to get decided on whether seven years of government service show genuine ownership or just rotation through assignments. That's the question sitting under this application.

- A GATE AIR-94 in Chemical Engineering is real academic evidence, and it matters here because a 7.92 from NIT Jalandhar plus that rank together tell a reader this is a person who performs under competitive pressure, not just a comfortable institutional grade.

- The training center initiative is the most useful recent work detail in this post: building an LMS from scratch with a private vendor and designing a program that addresses individual skill gaps is the kind of process-creation work that reads as initiative rather than job compliance, and that distinction is what separates PSU files in committee.

- Seven years across field operations, contract management, plant shifts, and training design is genuinely varied, but the transitions all read as transfers rather than sought-out moves, and ISB and the IIMs will want to see that at least one of those moves involved a choice the applicant drove.

- Post-MBA goals are missing from this post entirely, and for a 30-year-old with a PSU background targeting ISB, that gap will cost more than any test score concern.

A 685 on the current GMAT is a reasonable score for these schools, so the file gets decided on the story, not the number.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Contact us directly - submit a query here.
