Hi
I'll answer your specific questions:
ManthanAchelles
"How much competent is my profile: (a) In terms of getting admitted to B-Schools. (b) In terms of getting job offers after completing MBA.
*Will taking GMAT be beneficial at this stage?
*Won't it create any problem due to my non-corporate work exp after working in corporate sector for almost 4 years.
While you would definitely get into a business school, what's important is which ones are you targeting? A few relevant questions are: Which countries are you considering for doing an MBA? India or abroad (which region abroad? USA, Canada, Asia, Europe?). One year MBA or two year MBA?
All MBAs evaluate applicants on a few aspects of their profile which comprise: 1. academic capability; 2. leadership skills; 3, career progression; 4. professional achievements; 5. extracurricular activities and leadership outside work. If you are able to demonstrate these through various parts of your application, you should have an application as competitive as anyone else's.
b. Job offers after MBA - select MBA programs where students have already got the type of jobs you want. check out the employment reports of your desired MBA programs, you'll find these on the program website, and they typically contain a wealth of information that would give you a good starting point in your research.
c. Any program worth its salt would ask for a GMAT/GRE or their own test. Some European MBAs don't require GMAT/ GRE but allow you to take their internal assessment test.
d. I would consider your experience in private plus public as your strength, however it would be your responsibility to market it well. Emphasize that you have earned a unique set of skills on account of working in two vastly different organizational settings. You should also link your current experience with your career goals to make your story solid.
Thanks for the precious advice given as above. I am starting the preparation seriously.
One more point of doubt has been created to me by one of the leading counselors:
" It is said that Companies will not hire based on your MBA, but what have you worked on before ! " - please comment on this.
Also -wouldn't I be too old for an MBA after 9-10 years of experience?
I am though targeting for ASU, Fosters School, Rice at USA. ISB, IIMs in India.
Getting 700-720 in Mock GMATs.
Thanks.
