I am a 29 year old Indian male working abroad for last 5 years in a top tier Investment Bank. I am interested in pursuing a top US MBA program.
GMAT Score
730 (96%) AWA: 6.0 (91%))
Education
- UG GPA: 3.1
- Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering
- Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
- Won Scholarship
- Won many leadership and extra curricular awards
- Took a couple of business and finance courses in college and instantaneously became fascinated by finance. Decided to pursue a career in the Financial Services Industry.
Work Experience
5 Years in a top tier Investment Bank in Singapore
- Working for Chief Operating Officer (COO), developing and implementing business strategies and mandates for Emerging Markets.
- Won many top awards for distinguished and top rated performance.
- Have demonstrated strong evidence on how strategies have delivered results
Strong International Exposure
- Lived, Studied, Worked and travelled to multiple countries (Argentina, Mexico, Canada, USA, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Italy, Switzerland, UK)
- Worked in International teams.
- Managed and lead diverse team across regions
- President of College Club that organized trips to major industrial and technological hubs in China
Post-MBA Goal
I plan to transition from my strategy role into a full time investment banking advisory role. I wish to leverage upon the vast knowledge, exposure and experience I have gained working in Investment Banking and want a role where I can apply both my strategy and financial markets skills.

Greetings to you too! Thanks for all the detail - love it! So let's jump right into your questions:
1) Yes, the list of schools is a good, diverse list that we think you should be able to convert at least one school from - hooray!
2) You should mix up your schools between rounds. Don't go purely aggressive in R1 and safe in R2. Also, understand the opportunity cost of schools. Harvard and Stanford might not happen for you - so maybe pick one? And maybe do Johnson in R1 too. And toss in an international program or two too
3) If you're interested in banking, the choices are obvious. You have to go to a top 15/16 school. The clear winners are H/B/S/W, obviously - beyond that Stern, Columbia, MIT, LBS, etc. Any schools known for finance will give you an edge but any of the top programs will get you where you're trying to go!

I do have a few follow-up questions, would like to request you if you can opine on these as well:
1. You mentioned that Harvard and Stanford may not happen for me. I understand that these are highly competitive programs and have a single digit acceptance rate. I also understand that I belong to a highly competitive demographic pool, as a result the climb is tougher for me. But I want to fight it out, I am willing to take the challenge. In this regard I would like to request you if you can advise what kind of individuals are these top schools looking to admit. How does a Harvard/Stanford/Wharton/Booth admit profile look like. What are the key items that that make them stand out.
2. What are the key missing links I should work on to increase the likelihood of getting admitted to schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Booth, Wharton etc.
