Hi there,

Looks like you'll be a really interesting candidate for Stern! Yes - it would be good to have a higher GMAT score, but it's not insurmountable. I worked with a guy last fall who was also coming from a really competitive demographic and got into the program with a 640 (and he had less management experience than you). He took major steps to mitigate his GMAT though - which you have plenty of time to do. Again, best is to simply take it again and get a higher score, but even if you can't, I think you have a shot. I think your career progression / potential leadership that you can demonstrate from your job (along with the huge number of patents!) will make for really interesting stories in your essays. You'll definitely want to think through how to separate yourself from all of the other Indian engineers though. My hunch is that you can focus a lot on your involvement with strategy / team management; and of course personal attributes.

I'm always happy to chat if you'd like to discuss further - meredith@vantagepointadmissions.com

Best of luck!

Really nice profile here...a higher GMAT would do a lot to help you out which is what I would suggest for you especially given your demographic. Would just make your life a lot easier. Stern will be interested in you so just avoid giving them reason to not admit you

Hello,

I plan to apply to Stern's part time MBA program (Fall 2017) and will be targeting the 2nd deadline for my application. I'd certainly appreciate expert opinions and suggestions that would bolster my chances of admission. Below is some info on my academic and work profile:

-Male Engineer from India, green card holder (recognized through 'extraordinary skill/outstanding researcher' category)
- 9 years work experience as an R&D Team leader in a mid-size company working on cutting edge nano-electronics in Greater New York Area;( climbed my way up from Research Engineer)
-Filed over 60 US and International patent applications (20+ Issued)
-GMAT: 650 (Q48,V32)
-Grad: MS in Electrical Engineering, University of Cincinnati, GPA 4.0
-Undergrad: Bachelors of Engineering in EE from India, 'First class with distinction'

Thank you!

I can only agree with what has already been said: a really nice profile and while it would be better if you were not from such a competitive pool and/or had a higher GMAT score, I would still rate your chances as pretty good with a good application and essays.
