Hello
Accepted.com, this is sewhal813.
In early January I decided I wanted to go for an MBA to switch from a career in media to one in marketing. I applied to several schools late in the 2013-14 cycle and was more successful than I expected. Right now, my plan is to attend Wash U Olin on 60k scholarship as I like the school and believe it will be good for a CPG marketing career. Just wondering if waiting until next year would give me a much better outcome.
Using your requested format:
1. I was a full-time print journalist (newspaper reporter) for a small US daily newspaper for 18 months plus four more at college outlet before graduation. Currently freelance (around 4 months) for larger papers, including one with circulation over 150k.
2. 720 (45Q/44V, 6 AWA, 7 INT Reasoning). My first try after 3 weeks of study. Could possibly do better (though I stink at geometry), just don't see the point right now.
3. Journalism major at lower-ranked Big Ten school, 3.2 GPA, Class of 2012 (Age 24 in coming August)
4. None unless you count a 9 month FBI internship or working at the school paper.
5. None.
6. Kellogg, Anderson, Fuqua, Ross, Yale, Haas (applied to none of them this year, didn't think I'd even get an interview).
7. If I wait, R1 2014-15
8. Brand management, hopefully in either CPG, Amazon/Apple or a large scale electronics manufacturer like Samsung.
P.S. generally good at interviews and essay writing due to media background.
Thanks!
