Here is my profile in short:- (not detailed, just to give an overview)
GMAT : 720 (Q 50,V 38,IR 7,AWA 5.5)
Work Ex:
More than 3 years at India's leading PSU and Oil and Gas giant- 1 year in material management (procurement), >2 years field based job at Gas Processing Plant operations role-14 days on/off duty round-the-clock in hitches, Shift-in-charge for 5 personnel at a time, overall 2nd in position managing 35 staff at a time, Received 'Asset Annual Award' for a capacity-enhancement project;
2 months internship with a leading OnG MnC in college 3rd year- worked on brand new implementation of a project on SRP.
Academic:
School topper, 10th & 12th CBSE 94%, NSO/IMO ranker in school,
Graduated from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad - 8.03 cgpa (absolute scale),
AIR 15 in GATE, AIR 51 in NEST, Merit cum Means scholarship recipient for 7 semesters, represented college in 2 International competitions and conferences, held leading positions of responsibility in 4 college-level chapters/ societies of International Organisations( SPE, Petrotech etc), campus ambassador of Twenty19 in college, 2 international paper publications
Extra-curricular- trained vocal classical singer, trained painter, food blogger
Hobbies- amateur photography, photo and video editing, (I lag behind in the sports domain, no awards as such)

Unsure if I should retake the GMAT. Also, what does it take to bag scholarships at top Bschools.

Piklu, here are a few thoughts for your profile evaluation:

- The academic arc looks good given the IIT pedigree and a decent GPA. That alone will put that 720 in the not-so-good window unfortunately. Eventually though, it also depends on the type of schools you are targeting - anecdotally, one can add 20-30 points to a given school's average to get a sense of the Indian GMAT average.
- The work profile looks quite intriguing actually. It is usually not common for PSUs to change departments - did you make it happen or happened by luck? In any case, do try to use that well and showcase differentiation. Connecting the dots looking ahead, while O&G consulting may make sense, do research further - such roles don't really exist much/at all.
- The ECs and Volunteer arc is decent. However, it will be important to showcase scale and impact - without that, not a lot of mileage usually.
- For reasons mentioned here, we don't speculate on school selection chances. However, with a better score and a tight application, things should be pretty good for you. Scholarships decisions are usually done keeping the overall profile in consideration by most schools. In general, lower you target, better are the prospects for it.
