From the information you’ve provided, I don’t yet see you as a
viable and competitive applicant to the programs you mention. Here are several miscellaneous points to put it in perspective:
• GPA: It’s too low for these programs, unless you score very high on the GMAT to counter-balance. It is indeed helpful that the GPA is upward trending, and you do have a reasonable justification – but programs at this level see applicants who have good to high GPAs in spite of obstacles. If you could score a very high GMAT, that combined with the other mitigating factors might make you viable at the programs you mention.
• GMAT: To be truly competitive at these programs, you would need about a 710 at least, and ideally a bit higher, given your demographic and industry group, evenif you had a higher GPA.
• To be competitive at any programs, these or others, you must flesh out your goals – right now they’re too general. I assume you’re planning to do that – I suggest reviewing my
online guidance on that topic, which walks you through how to develop your goals.
• Your work experience is your greatest asset for your applications – it’s strong and interesting; make the most of it in your applications!
• Programs such as Tepper and Georgetown would be a good level to target, given the factors as they are now.
