Hello,
Age: 27 Hatian/African American Female, planning to apply in Fall 08
Work Ex: 1 yr in land development engineering and 2+ yrs in Environmental Engineering. I'm currently in charge of an 11 county region in NC at a state dept.
Undergrad GPA: 3.2 from Florida State.
I graduated late because I had to transfer and many of my credits didn't transfer with me. Also, I went to grad school right out of undergrad (urban and regional planning) but ended up leaving after my second semester because I was taking care of my nephews at the time and we were broke.
GMAT: 740 (I don't know the breakdown off the top of my head but my quant score was higher than my verbal)
International Experience: Research internship to Tokyo for 4 mos.
Volunteer Work:
Special events chair for SCLC
Special events chair Students United for a Responsible Global Environment
Post MBA short term goal:
Corporate Strategy for Sustainable Development and Environmental Management or CSR
Target Schools:
Wharton, Yale, Tuck, Ross, UNC
Maybes:
U of Chicago, NYU, Darden
I am not going to apply to all these schools but my targets give me a good chance to achieve my goal. I threw in the maybes because although they're not known specifically for CSR they do have good finance programs.
Ques.
1. Could you please evaluate my profile and let me know what my chances are at the schools above and what I can do in the meantime to increase my chances.
2. I am going to take some courses because I don't have a business background and to build an alternative transcript. What courses do you recommend?
3. What should I do about my lone year of grad school? I don't want adcom to feel as if I don't complete tasks.
4. I wanted to use your services next year for completing my applications. When can I begin this process?

You will be competitive. Sounds like some really interesting experiences. Strong GMAT and a nice story -- lots of interest in SD / CSR and you have the credentials to back up your desire to move into it.

Economics and Finance. Shouldn't have to do more than that at all.

Consider tackling it the optional essay and then move on -- Not something you want to dwell on too much at all.

I'd recommend picking up a book on the app process (doesn't even have to be mine) if you haven't already. And then after you've take a crack at some essays, you can get started with us.
