Hi Ipsy22,

If we look at your profile from the perspective of top Indian B-schools like ISB, SPJIMR, and the older IIMs, your academics are fair overall. The GPA is fine, although the undergrad GPA is slightly on the lower side. The McGill degree and full tuition scholarship definitely add strong academic credibility to the profile.
Your work experience is fine for the IIMs, while for ISB and SPJIMR it would be on the relatively higher side by the time you apply. Because of that, your applications will need to position your experience carefully and show strong career progression, leadership, and clarity of goals.
One area that needs attention is the frequency of job switches. Since you’ve moved across multiple organizations and functions over the years, the applications should clearly explain the rationale behind these transitions and present a coherent career narrative. Otherwise, it can raise questions around continuity and long-term direction.
On the positive side, the nature of your roles is different from the regular technical applicant pool, which helps with differentiation. Your sustainability and consulting exposure can become a strong angle if positioned properly.
Your extracurriculars are good and add personality to the profile. Continue staying active in team-based or collaborative activities alongside work, even if it is at a smaller scale. Consistency matters more than quantity at this stage.
The biggest focus area now should be the GMAT. A strong score will play an important role in strengthening the overall profile and balancing out weaker areas. Alongside that, handling the higher work experience for ISB and SPJIMR and addressing the frequent job switches properly in the application narrative will be very important

We encourage you to inquire with us so we can schedule a free strategy session for guiding you.

Thanks and all the best!

I cannot quite understand yet why you are considering an MBA at this stage based on the profile brief you shared. Profiles are best evaluated when we first understand your motivations because that gives context to how your experiences should be interpreted and positioned. I do get the sense though that there are probably some interesting underlying layers in your journey already, for eg. studying abroad or moving across different roles and companies. I would have genuinely liked to understand what you actually do as a sustainability consultant because that itself could potentially be very interesting depending on the nature of the work. It is a bit of a bummer that you did not elaborate more, because right now it becomes difficult to really see the uniqueness in the kind of work you are doing. By the way, this is also exactly how many applicants unintentionally undersell themselves and fail to spotlight what actually makes their profile differentiated. If you would like to share more context here, I am happy to give a much more detailed take on your profile. Otherwise, feel free to reach out for a deeper discussion.

Best wishes

Thank you for the elaborate review! TC!

You actually have a pretty differentiated profile. McGill + scholarship + Canada work exposure + sustainability consulting already makes you stand out from the usual applicant pool.

The music background and disability support work also make you feel more “human” on paper, which helps more than people think.

Your biggest challenge is probably not the profile, it’s positioning. With ~9 years experience, schools will want clarity on why MBA now and what role you want after it.

For Indian School of Business and top Indian Institutes of Management, try getting around 685+ FE if possible. A strong score will balance things nicely.

Also don’t over-explain the career break. COVID + relocation is completely understandable.

Overall, this is not a “cookie cutter engineer” profile at all. If you tell the story well, you’ll definitely be competitive.
