Paul,
Would you mind evaluating my profile?
- 25/Caucasian/Male
- 2 1/2 years (at matric.) in Corporate Finance and Asset & Liabililty Management (2 promotions within 1 1/2 years)
- 1 1/2 years in advertising (1 promotion and managerial experience)
- 690/91% (47Q/82%, 37V/83%)
- 3.3 GPA at top 5 undergrad business program
- 2 community involvements
1) Local young professional leadership organization, which includes planning events to build leadership, personal and professional development, and community service
2) Mentor for college students
- Goals: Take my ALM and leadership experiences to the next level as an I-Banker in M&A, all via my MBA
The catch: I took the GMAT 5 times. My highest score, the 690, was my third score, and the other four show progression and then decline. I admit it, I was blindly obssessed with getting above a 700 because of what it means to schools and even employers. I regret it now becuse it could hurt my chances, but the question is how much?
I plan on applying to 5 top-15 schools, and I think, even with my 5 attempts, I am a competitive candidate overall--that is if I visit the schools and put together a tremendous application. One blessing in all of this is that the schools will either see my first three or my first four scores. I had Pearson send my scores to 2 schools before my third test, and then I had Pearson send my scores to another 3 schools before my fourth test. No schools will ever have to see all five scores, unless I apply to a sixth school. However, the apps could ask how many times I took the test, which will sting, but I have never heard of them asking for every score that I have ever gotten.
I hope your evaluation will give me insight into my upcoming application process, as well as other applicants who have taken the test multiple times. Thank you for your time.
