Hi DJay:
I appreciate the level of detail that you provide in your original post. However, I do question some of your assumptions. Primarily, I doubt that your lack of extracurricular activities is the primary factor holding you back. I believe that it has more to do with your GMAT score as a 700 is marginally competitive at a top 10 or 15 business school.
Given my lack of visibility into your essays, I have no idea how you may have communicated your transition from accounting into technology. Also, I am not certain as to what your "Manager" role consisted of - more technical or more accounting oriented? None-the-less, while a 700 might be sufficient at a top 30 school, your career goals may not be explained well or your career transition may not be viewed in the best light. Remember, admissions committees are universally leery of career switchers.
With respect to your school choices in R3:
Stanford GSB is a no-go. Don't even waste your time applying.
UCLA Anderson has availability, but again, I am not certain why you are picking the school. That is, why UCLA? As an aside - its not a matter of just picking schools to apply to, you need to demonstrate fit, especially in the late rounds when they know you are using them as a backup.
BU and Tepper - they should have availability, but if you are making a social entrepreneurship play, in addition to a career change play, I can tell you that its not really going to fit well with these schools either.
Based on the limited info I have - the bottom line is that if you think that your lack of extracurriculars is what is holding you back (ascertained by your option to wait), you are probably misguided both in your current messaging and positioning. This means that your goals will not jive and no matter what school you apply to, you're going to have issues.
I recommend waiting until this fall. In the meantime, you need to make sure your goals make sense, your GMAT is higher and your writing skills convey the right direction.
Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
