Hello! I'd like to start off by thanking you in advance for reviewing my profile.
Hi Karan9192, happy to help you by reviewing your profile. My comments are below.Nationality- Indian
Age- 25, Male
you are going to be a bit light on experience with this age!GMAT- Looking to score a minimum of 710 in my second attempt, my first ended with a 630
Spend some time on this GMAT- getting 710 and more will help offset lower work experienceUndergrad:
A CGPA of 3.4 from MSRIT, Bangalore, India. B.E - Electronics and Communications, May 2013
This gpa is somewhat neutral- not terribly setting you apart- but not going to hurt you much either. Now for my work experience, this is where it gets rather unconventional:
Product Development for a furniture manufacturing start-up in Dubai ( 1 Year )
- Developed a line of acoustic products
- Lead the development of an acoustic RT60 calculator app
- Developed and executed a full reconfiguration of the firm's SalesForce CRM to fit it's operations and procedures
This sounds interesting- might want to expand on this in application processCurrent - Brand Strategy & Development in Dubai, UAE ( 4th Year Running, got transferred to a branch of the same holding company )
cross-cultural work experience will be good to highlight- Managed the brand 'IdeaPaint' for the region
- B2B sales and contract furniture consulting for large scale corporate projects
- Started the marketing department for our firm - complete website overhaul, landing pages, ad campaigns.
- The result of the above have led to an increase in 30% sales, due to actionable changes based on insights and analysis from marketing.
- In fact, I managed to secure AED 1 million ( close to USD 275,000 ) from from web leads in the first year alone. Pretty decent feat for a one man job.
- In short, I've a good hand at managing large projects. It's not an easy task to convince clients to spend a great deal of their money on something like furniture, and things go wrong all the time on large projects.
Part-Time:
- Been the sub-editor for a magazine called B-change for about 1.5 years.
- Now the Chief Editor for a start-up called Lovethatdesign dot come ( can't post URLs for some reason! ) - my role involves content creation, interviews, etc. This is since the start of 2017
Extra-curricular:
- A member of Rang-De's Dubai chapter for a brief time until we had to close it. ( Micro-finance non-profit org )
- Active volunteer for Surge for Water ( non profit for water conservation and clean drinking water ).
- Kick-boxing enthusiast
Target schools for 2018 intake: McCombs, Tepper, Foster School of Business, Indian School of Business ( Please feel free to suggest schools )
this list sounds reasonable if you can get your GMAT score up somewhat.Post MBA goals: I want to get into Strategy Consulting, and move on to focus on product strategy and consulting, specifically technology. I absolutely love the idea of product management, but I also want to able strategize and consult for for different fields. I love the product development and go-to-market process!
Challenges :
- I have no choice but to apply in R2 due to time constraints.
Use the time to take GMAT again!- I'm concerned my non blue-chip experience, coupled with a sales profile will come across as unimpressive. Sales has a lower barrier to entry from what I've heard.
I disagree- focus on your results in sales and since SalesForce is a big recruiter in MBA markets- focus on your roles understanding CRM and what you did in your company there. Best wishes!
Here's a webinar Stratus did recently to help you narrow down schools and pick your own top MBA programs! Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Qwf1keExQ
Would appreciate the advice. Thank you!
