Hi,

UG GPA: 3.8 in Economics at top 15 non-Ivy private school
GMAT: 760 (49Q/45V, 6 AWA, 8 IR)
Asian American, 25 years old
work: 3 years of buy-side equity research at a top 5 asset manager
EC: leadership in numerous college clubs & a fraternity. mentoring asian-american immigrant middle/high schoolers outside of work currently.

Schools: Booth, CBS, Fuqua, HBS, Kellogg, Tuck, Wharton, Yale SOM
Goal: transition away from public market investing to business operations & strategy via management consulting

2 questions:
1) Should I seek out another year of work experience at another company? A lateral after 3 years would most likely be within the investing space in finance and I'm not sure if it's worth it to get closer to the top B schools' median of 4-5 years of experience at the risk of possibly hobbling my application story.
2) what do you think my chances are now with just the 3 years? Any room for improvement?

Thanks!

I think you have a fantastic profile and although you are coming from a competitive applicant pool I don't think a lateral move or a career change that is not ultimately moving you closer to your post-MBA career goals will add much to your profile. Given you are still a young candidate you should focus on showing your maturity and the clarity in choosing right now as the ideal time for your MBA
