I am reaching out to the GMATClub community as my friend is a bit concerned with his current situation.
He is planning to apply for MBA programs next year and is studying for the GMAT now.
He has 4.5 years of WE all at one place and is most likely going to be promoted to a manager position by year-end.
At this time he has another offer on the table that he is evaluating, not only in terms of the role, but also the impact on MBA applications. So I have listed both of the options below in detail.
Choice 1:
Stay at the current role. Most likely be promoted to manager (have 6-7 direct reports). Salary will be the same, since he makes the same with overtime as a manager would being salaried. Work life balance is trash and is not able to dedicate as much time to family and GMAT. LoR would be great. Once he stays and becomes a director, he will likely have to stay for another 2 years till he start an MBA (given the timeline for LoRs/application cycle/matching the goals/etc...) and will be extremely miserable.
Choice 2:
Fully remote role with great work life balance. Able to dedicate more time to family and towards studying for the GMAT. Lateral move in terms on his current level, but a increase in salary 10-15% (based on negotiations). Time would be good if he had to make the move as it would give him exactly 1 year to establish himself and get great LoRs.
Both companies are F500 - well established. So does the manager title weight heavier, than dedicating that time towards family and GMAT? and also resulting in a slightly better salary?
