Hey Ravi - It's never too late to pursue an MBA. But do keep in mind that from an employability standpoint, you may find it difficult to secure employment as you will have to look for a senior leadership experience vs entry level position at MBB

Team,

I wanted some insight as how to go about pursuing MBA with 12 years Work Experience in Oil & Gas industry.

I am looking for a full time course but with the core experience in the energy sector- how will this impact or help my application. My preference will be to continue working in the energy sector under the Strategy or Energy Transition division.
Not sure if I am posting this in the right forum- new to GMATCLUB.

Regards,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,
Most candidates with your work experience apply to EMBA programs. EMBAs are generally part time programs, created to provide experienced business executives with real-world tools and information to advance their careers without impacting their busy schedules and work-related responsibilities. Students in EMBA programs are usually around 37 years of age, with at least 10 years of experience in an executive position. A minimum of 7 years’ work experience is generally required, but the GMAT is often optional. You can find a list of top EMBA programs here: https://www.aringo.com/best-emba-programs/

If you are aiming for a regular full-time MBA program, I suggest you read this article to help you position yourself as an older applicant: https://www.aringo.com/mba-over-30/
There are several full-time programs that are more suitable for senior candidates, like Stanford MSx, MIT Sloan Fellows, USC IBEAR, LBS Sloan etc.

Hi,

Having 12+ years of experience is not a deterrent toward pursuing an MBA. Most European and Asian MBA programs have a preference for senior applicants with strong work profiles. It s more important to focus on your career alignment with the particular B-schools. I am sharing a comprehensive list of programs that are globally recognised for placements in the energy sector. You can check if they match your requirements.

1) Rice University: Jones (USA)
2) University of Texas: Mccombs (USA)
3) Texas A&M University (USA)
4) UNC Kenan Flagler (USA)
5) University of Houston: CT Bauer (USA)
6) University of Oklahoma (USA)
7) Imperial College (UK)
8) University of Edinburg (UK)
9) HEC Paris (France)
10) Erasmus Rotterdam (Netherlands)
11) York University (Schulich)
12) University of Alberta (Canada)
