Quick Question,
I work for the largest tobacco company in the world NYSE: PMI (Philip Morris International) in the financial reporting group. I am a senior financial analyst and I hold a CPA. I am aware of how tobacco companies are perceived to the public, which quite often is negative. I was just wondering if this will affect my chances of getting into a top 10 school. How will an adcom from, say, NYU or Yale perceive this? I know that ad com’s are selective about the industry in which students come from, pre-MBA, will working in the tobacco industry discount my chances ?
Thanks,
No. Tobacco is legal. Negative views of your employer should not affect your application at all. The question will be what impact have you had and how much did you contribute.
