Hello,
I have been planning on applying to R3 of Darden and Cornell and would like to have some suggestion on whether it will be a good idea.
I am a female architect from India with a work ex of 5 years. I have been freelancing for 1.5 years. My GMAT score is 720 (V40 Q49).
I am somehwat desperate to start school in the fall of 2021, but if that's a totally ridiculous idea, I might wait it out and apply in the coming first rounds.
Please suggest about what I should be doing. Should I take a chance or wait it out.

I am going to strongly suggest waiting it out until next application cycle in R1. International applicant + R3 + a highly competitive year will not work in your favour. Additionally, you will need to present solid work experience and achievements as a freelancer. My last suggestion would be to try retaking GMAT if you can before R1.

Hey, thanks a lot for your suggestions. You think I should try retaking GMAT if I decide to wait it out for R1? What should be my target score?

Hello ac2311,

While it is possible to apply with a strict deadline and be successful, Personal MBA Coach generally finds that the best applicants do not rush anywhere near deadlines.

Even if though you have already secured a relatively strong GMAT score, solidifying your personal story, selecting your recommenders, perfecting your essays, and filling out the rest of the application takes time.

Given that the R3 Darden and Cornell deadlines are later this week, this gives you very little time to make sure that your applications are the strongest they can be. If you want to hold off, round one applicants tend to be better prepared and stronger, although there are fewer of them. Ultimately, the most important thing is to apply when you are 100% ready.

Personal MBA Coach can help you prepare for Round 1 via our comprehensive services. Feel free to send a note to scott@personalmbacoach.com to learn how we can help enhance your candidacy.

Best,
Personal MBA Coach
