Hi all,

I will be having 2years of full time work experience from fortune 500 company as a technology operations Analyst by matriculation, received promotion within a year and during my graduation I have worked fulltime for 1 year with a start up. I have 8.5 CGPA from Bangalore University.I have 770 GMAT, 107 Toefl score.
I was elected secretary for Entrepreneurship Cell, Chief Student Editor, and Student Board Member and hosted intercollegiate events. I teach underprivileged students in an NGO. Participated and won case study competitions. Please rate my chances at top 20 US Universities.

Thank You!

Sushmitha6789:
You are on the younger side, but would get higher points for your gender profile.
Also, great GMAT, and what seems like good demonstration of leadership & ECs, but adcoms will be concerned about your maturity.
A good application from you will need to set their concerns at rest, and show evidence in your stories and your applications.

Top 10-15: Great chance
Top 7-15: Must try, but don't necessarily count on them
top 7 may be possible, but may be overreach

Sushmitha6789 Your profile looks impressive on the surface but your GMAT is definitely the highlight of it. I would say how you play your outside work initiatives into your narrative would determine your success in this year's application cycle to a great extent. Another great way to make up for your early candidacy would be to get stellar recommendations from your senior executives corroborating exceptional performances on the professional front. Your goals narrative must be well deliberated and if you do a good job on all aspects you may have a good chance at schools such as Duke, Tuck and Tepper at the very best. Kenan Flagler, Marshal and Mc Combs might be relatively safer options. You may give it a try this year to test waters but you can definitely come back stronger next year for top tier schools.

Best wishes

The work ex might be good enough for any of the Exec/Part time MBA programs at IIMs.
But for Top 20, you'd need comprehensive 4-6 year work experience.
Don't waste your time and application fee by rushing into the application process now.
Having said that, your GMAT score would be a mouth-watering proposition for 20-30 schools.

Hi Sushmitha6789,

Thanks for writing in.

Your experience is on the lower side for any US program but it will put you at a significant disadvantage in the US top ~15 schools. If you are not prepared to wait and build your profile, you may look at the US top 15-25 schools where you stand a decent chance on the basis of your stellar GMAT score; needless to say, how well you present your profile in the essays is also very important. Also, in case you do choose to apply, please talk about the experience you gained during your undergrad in a detailed manner portraying how it adds further value to your profile (while it will not be counted towards formal work experience, we can always build a case for how it added to your maturity).

Note:-If you graduated from Bangalore University with a 3-year undergrad degree, you will have to further check your eligibility with the US top ~25 schools.

Should you wish to discuss this in greater detail, you could always reach out to us for a free profile evaluation session.

All the best!
