Looking for some advice. As you can see from under my name, the application process in 2011 didn't go so well for me. A combination of 3.03 GPA, 66th percentile quant score and not the greatest cohesion in my essays(didn't use a consultant) came together and gave me a lackluster showing. I just retook the GMAT yesterday and got a 750, 48Q/46V so that should help strengthen my application and take away from the GPA red flag a little bit.
I'm active duty military, will be a Captain with 4 years work experience at time of application this fall. I think I have a good engineering degree from Georgia Tech, very strong leadership experience and now with the GMAT score being above average instead of below average I think I have a very strong profile. I'm going to re-apply to Columbia as well as applying for a first time to Booth and Tuck. I'm considering re-applying to Wharton but not positive.
For personal reasons I've already put in my notice that I'm getting out of the military next year so I have to get into school somewhere. Even though I feel I'm competitive at top schools it can still be a crap shoot so I want to add some safety schools as well. I'm thinking Fuqua is a good choice, any other thoughts? I would really like to go into Finance, either Asset Management (hence Booth and Columbia) or banking/private equity (which is why I'm considering re-applying to Wharton as well). So what would be a decent "safety" school but still be competitive enough to allow me to switch careers into Finance?
