Hi all,
I am a 29-year old prosepctive mba student targetting Round II applications (i.e by first week of january 2007) for 3 top US schools (Wharton, Chicago, Stern).
As on today (i.e Dec.23, 2006) I am ready with: Recommendation letters, Official College transcripts, initial write-up of essays for all 3 US schools, online application of each school.
During next week (12/25-12/29) I have planned to complete final draft of essays, fedex recommendation letters + college transcripts and SUBMIT online applications (i.e submit my apps for 2007 session)
Pros in my application this year are:
1. I visited each of the schools, met students and admissions directors personally and communicated by interest and plan to attend their school
2. Strong and rich work experience
3. Strong recommendation letters (current supervisor and CIO of current firm)
4. GPA is 2.9
5. Cross-cultural diversity in work experience
Cons in my application this year are:
1. Low GMAT score
2. I am 29 yrs old (probably too late for re-applying next year?)
Can anyone please advise should I consider to re-apply next year? What are my chances of getting admitted this year. If I consider to re-apply next year does it really matter whether or not I SUBMIT my application this year?
Are there any cons in reapplying next year?
I recall some schools ask for only 1 recommendation letter and few essays for re-applicants. Is that advantageous in any way over fresh applicants?
Can anyone share their thoughts, feelings or opinions. It will help me immensely in deciding application plan.

I'm not sure that I understand your question. Are you asking if you should take your chances, and then possibly reapply next yearof needed? Or if you shouldn't apply at all this year?
I don't have enough info here to really go on to judge your chances, but if you are already planning your reapplication strategy for 2007-2008, then that tells me that you have a good sense that you don't have a very strong application right now. If that's the case, you should think hard about what you can do in the next 10-12 months to improve your application, such as by gaining additional work experience, getting more involved outside of work, etc.
And keep in mind that, if you don't get in now and reapply next year, you will need to answer the question of "What makes your application better this year?" So, whether or not you apply now, start thinking now about additional things you can do to make your applicatoin stronger next year.

Sorry if I was not clear in my post.
Last year I put lots of efforts in attending other parts of application - strong reco letters, school visits, meetings with students and admission directors. I did this despite being an international student (living in Tokyo, Japan). I had also been careful from past 8.5 years of full-time work exp. that I am gathering 'quality' work experience and not mere no.of years. I had been eyeing on MBA from quite long time.
The only hurdles I see at this point are low GMAT and average GPA. Of course there is no excuse to hurdles but I did realize something went wrong in my prepration plan at some point. As I have identified causes of the hurdles I can make sure it does not happen next year.
At this point one choice I have is to SUBMIT my application this year.
Due to any reason if I do not get admitted this year then it means next year I will be considered as a re-applicant. (Is it right?) I do not know if a re-applicant is looked bad in eyes of admissions directors. I also know that a re-applicant has to re-do the whole application process again but I do not have much choice in that, I guess.
Another choice is to keep mum, do not apply this year, work on the weak areas in next 10-12 months and then apply for next year as a fresh candidate.
This is first time for me to apply to any MBA school.
I would be glad to hear your honest opinion and advice, if any. What do you think? Thank you in advance.
