Hi everyone,
I am a student planning to apply for different def. admission programs in the US. I will have to ask letter of references, and I am planning to ask for one either to 1) my thesis professor 2) my mentor 3) my manager during the internship. But since the questions each school asks for in the letters seem to be different, I was wondering how can I minimize their effort. I don't want them to spend too much time for my application, as it could be very annoying.

elpuntazza, the recommendation is one of the important factors which matters in your application process. One should be very specific while choosing their recommender like who know your work well, very closely monitors and guides you on a regular basis. It is also mandatory to educate the recommender about what to be written in your recommendation later.

Having said, it's good to have one recommender from your UG backgrounds like your mentor/professor and one from your manager during your internship. Because your professor can be able to explain your achievements and activities during your UG program and manager from interns can tell your innovative idea's or leadership skills executed.

Hi! Thank you very much for answering. Assuming I find the 2 recommenders, should I reduce my selection to only 2-3 schools? The questions that they will have to ask are different from school to school, and I am concerned about the fact that they will be annoyed if I ask them to fill 5 different question forms.

That's the reason one should choose the recommender who's very close personally as well as professional. If you shortlist people from your superior post/level who don't have much time to write your recommendation for 5 or more school is of no use. Instead, you can pick you, manager or 1/2 levels above you should be good.

Choosing the number of schools can also depend on profile like your GMAT score, geography, year of work experience and post MBA goals. If you have a good profile with decent UG and GMAT you can reduce the list of schools to target. If you think your profile is just on the average cut, target 5-6 good schools to receive a more positive response.
