Hi there,
I’m hoping to get some thoughts on who I should be asking for recommendations. For the last 5.5 years I’ve had my own business and while my business partner is happy to fill out the recommendation from, I’m having a difficult time figuring out who the other two should be. Unfortunately I’m not involved in the day to day operations and asking a client may not be the best choice. At this point I’ve come up with 6 possible choices:
1. My former boss from when I worked an international development bank-downside being that it was over 7 years ago.
2. The president of my condominium board where I’m currently serving as the board’s treasurer.
3. A former employee who worked with the organization for 4 years. Former employee logic being that she is no longer forced to be biased with her recommendation and can talk directly about my leadership capabilities.
4. A client. While I didn't deal with her on a day to day basis, she can certainly attest to how the business is run and how it’s helped her.
5. A friend who I studied and worked with previous to starting my own company who currently holds a fancy title at major accounting firm.
6. A commercial banker who my company deals with. He has a strong understanding of the business I helped create as well as my role.
Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
