Hi,

I am currently living in Canada. I am planning to apply to Canadian B-schools this year. I am planning to apply to Queens University and Ivey school of business for their January intake. I am confused which consultant should I go for? Someone who is local in Canada? I have a strong profile (holding masters in CS from the top Indian university with 5 years of experience). But I was trying to switch my career, I am currently unemployed for 9 months. I need someone who can help me overcome this one.

Please share more details on your profile, including test scores, if they are available.

Unemployment by itself may not be a factor stopping you at the moment. Given the situation with COVID, there are many B-school applicants who are applying from a similar position, and getting good results. You have 5 years of solid experience behind you, which will help.

Hi,
Hi @gmat4122, no one is perfect! I've seen how candidates get accepted from the school side and also from the consulting side as I have worked on both. I've had clients get scholarships to major MBA programs with sub 3.0 GPAs, gain acceptance to elite programs like Wharton with some low grades in quant courses, get into Tuck with an employment gap.... you get the idea. I have worked with many candidates successfully to gain acceptance to Canadian programs. In terms of offering advice here on how to overcome a career gap-- first realize that there has never been a time when adcom is more understanding of a break in employment! They understand the world is going through great disruption. The key is what are you doing to keep adding skills? Are you taking a new course or building a new skill with that free time? Is your GMAT so strong that no one has time to notice your employment? I have interviewed lots of people over the years and the ones that do best are not apologetic about their past. I have people confidently tell me they lost their job and what they have learned in the process and I did not think worse of them-- in fact I admired their confidence that they could share a disappointment and yet still be so optimistic. Just don't blame anyone for your situation-- show the schools that you are someone looking forward and tell them how you add value to the class!
