Removing Recommender

What will happen if I add a recommender but exclude him/her before he/she submit the recommendation. Will they get notified of it?

Most likely they won't be able to submit the recommendation if you've taken them off the list. Best to check with each school as they may have set their application system differently in terms of notifications, etc.

Yes the recommender will get notified.

I took a guy off of my LOR list cause he kept blowing off me prep meetings, never responded to my emails, etc. I couldn't take that risk if he didn't turn it in by R1.

Would the adcom see your record of removing a recommender and therefore think it look bad on you? One of my recommenders just notified me he has some family emergencies and couldn't guarantee he can submit it on time. I just excluded him but now I regret it a bit.

Not at all. For all the AdCom knows, they may have politely declined they would not have time or did not feel they were in a position to support you. As long as you have the required number of recommendations for your application, the AdCom is not going to consider you better or worse as a candidate on the basis of whether a recommender was replaced. It's just not now these reviewers think about the process!
