Extracurricular: I’m an active amateur tennis player participating in USTA and GLTA (LGBT Tennis) events across the country. As a gay man, I’m decently active in the LGBT community. I often participate in putting events together locally here in DC.
Experience: I started my career as a quant in a BB. I spent 1 year in Portfolio Strategies (quantitative support for the commercial credit portfolio) and 2 years in Model Validation (loss forecasting models, capital models, and market risk models). Then, I went over to the public sector working at a Federal Bureau as a Senior Economist (quantitative support, survey studies, policy evaluation) where I’ve been for a year now.
Goal: I want to get into public sector consulting.
Question: I would ideally like to go for an MBA/MS Public Policy dual degree. Thus, schools like Harvard and Stanford are naturally on the top of my list. However, as for most people, I’m sure these are a long shot. I’d love to get input on my chances to top 5 programs and the dual degree MBA/MS. Also, any suggestions on improving my profile would be well appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: I wanted to mention my reason for an MBA (other than breaking into the top firms). I want to transition out of the heavy quantitative/modeling work and move into more management/strategy type roles in the public sector.
