Post Graduation - MBA, from mumbai University, 2008 passout
Work experience - 10 years, all in sales(8 yrs in media sales)
In team management role since the last 5 years
GMAT Score 680
Extra Curricular
Active member in college festivals
Member of placement committee in mba colleges
Causes I support
Food for the needy and education for children
Target colleges
One year programs only
Insead, Stanford Msx, Kellogg one year, MIT Sloan fellowship, Cornell Accelerated one year program.
Insead is priority one.
Where I need the experts help is to determine.
I am open to consulting, marketing roles.
Since all my experience is only in marketing and sales does this put me at a disadvantage for consulting roles.
My intention from the MBA program is to gain global knowledge and become an effective global resource.
My preference will be a leadership role or a vertical / regional head.
Am I targeting the right colleges considering my final goals?
What are the chances of lateral opportunities, considering I would personally also be actively look out for jobs.

Hi there,
Your profile is very good. And 10 years of work ex will give you some relaxation with the GMAT score but still with your target schools I'm not very hopeful. You may want to add a few safe schools in your list. INSEAD is very competitive you may not be able to get in. Out of your list Cornell is nearest (still far).
To answer your question marketing will not put you at a disadvantage. You might be able to land a marketing consulting role if not with MBB then atleast with internal consulting department of your target Industry. There are some excellent schools you may want to look at for Marketing. Please let me know if you want to have a free call for discuss it. Hope this helps.

- The work profile 'sounds' interesting but say more. Do you have any dazzling achievements in there which make you stand out from others in your industry? What kind of brands have you been associated with? Do you rub shoulders with MBAs and so on. The quality of experience matters, not just years as am sure you know.
- The ECs/volunteer work too sound good. But without the details, tough to say if they are much good.
- For European programs, international experience can matter; read here. Not sure if you have any/much?
- Apart from you current list, also consider Judge/IMD from age/experience perspective. The GMAT will be a definite hurdle overall - consulting companies too look at it during post-MBA recruitment. Marketing firms tend to be very selective in hiring international MBA grads. So basically, do a lot more research and planning before diving in.
