Hello,
I'm a little confused about what colleges I should pick as safety and as a realistic goal. Any help would be much appreciated!
Background - Indian, Female, 25
Gmat - 730
Undergrad - Tier 1 college, top 10 uni, BBA in finance
GPA - 3.0/4.0, low but i still place in the top 30 percentile our grading system is a little different
Work ex -
1) Equity research analyst - 2 promotions in 4 years, 2017 to 2021
2) Recently changed my role within the same firm to a private equity one - think July 2021
Both at the same firm - a mid size, public, financial firm
Volunteer work -
8 years at a women's resource center and community center
Lead a lot of the charity projects myself, such as menstrual product campaigns for the poor, blood drives, free medical check ups, food drives etc year round
3 years at a rotary club
Post mba goals - not too sure honestly. I would like to explore PE more, or IB. Would not mind interning and exploring a consulting job. Any advice would be helpful.
There's a few things I've not included that may not be important, if I'm missing anything let me know.
What would you categorise the following colleges as
Canada - Rotman
Usa - Ross, Fuqua, USC Marshall, NYU Stern, Cornell
If there are any other colleges that may be a fit, please let me know. Thank you.

On the work front, I can see a good career trajectory. You’ve got 2 promotions in 4 years; you should explain how you perform better than your peers. You didn’t share much about your work experience here; I would like to know the roles and responsibilities you have handled, impact, leadership, innovation. I suggest communicating well your impact on the organizations you have been part of. Furthermore, no matter how unusual your application is, focusing solely on professional expertise will make it boring. To bring a person in your application, you will need to bring a nice balance of your professional and personal self.
You are involved in "a lot of volunteer work.” Your applications should represent a collaborative leader and a compassionate person. Every school emphasizes this aspect, and if it is a strong element of your profile, you must highlight it. Regarding your post-MBA goals, it's fine if you don't know exactly what you want to do, but you should at least know where you want to go, so brainstorm it, connect it to your prior work experience, think about your interests, and how MBA will fill the gaps in your profile. Your post-MBA goals will help you narrow down your selection of b-schools. If you are interested in PE or IB, Booth, Kellogg, MIT, Yale, and IESE are great options. Everyone with a financial background aspires to work for a big investment banking firm. What distinguishes you? Consider this: What do you want to accomplish in the long run? Then, consider the short-term goals to help you attain your long-term goals. Rotman is good for post-MBA goals in finance background. You may want to read an article on how to frame practical post-MBA goals essays, you will get some insights on how to communicate the convincing case to the adcoms.
Overall, your profile is good. However, to properly assess your chances, I would like to learn more about your work experience. Considering your work experience, you have plenty of things to talk about in your essays related to your promotions and achievements you may have received and etc which will impress Adcom. Your profile, past work- experience, the essays you write, your interview- everything counts towards the final decision. You have to bear in mind that there may be many other candidates with similar qualifications that meet the same criteria. What will differentiate you is how well you answer the questions in your essays. Different schools have different philosophies and look for students with certain traits.
