Request you to have a look at my profile and advise me on my application strategy accordingly.
Background: Male, 26, Indian
Undergrad: BE, Computer Science and Engineering
GPA: 8.6/10.
GMAT 710, Q50, V37 IR 6 AWA -Score awaited.
Work Ex:(4 years)
- Started off my career as a Software Engineer with a US based Data Warehousing firm in their R & D division.Worked here for 2.5 years in the Product Design and Dev team.
- Transitioned into the PS Consulting division of my company for the same product to work on enterprise wide product implementation projects.Shifted base to Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.Currently,engaged in an Enterprise Data Management initiative at a major multinational banking and financial services company. Key Responsibility Areas :
- Customized Solution Design
- Development Team Lead for the Implementation Project
- Project Delivery Management
- Resource Training
Awards:
- Award for outstanding Project Delivery
- Patent filed by company for a product feature i had developed during my stint at the R & D division.
- Silver Award - The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for Young People( high school)
Extra Curriculars:
- Involved in company's CSR initiatives.
- Sports enthusiast: University Hockey,Squash
- Passion for adventure activities: Undertaken 3 of the toughest treks in India,Professional Skiing Course
Post MBA Goal:
Strategy Consulting at one of the major MC firms.
Above mentioned details are just the key notes as i dint want to take too much of your time. Basically i need your help in fixing the spectrum of colleges i should aim for given my GMAT score and profile.I know i don't have very strong extra curriculars, but i feel i can leverage the following points to my benefit:
- International work experience (Malaysia,Singapore,Phillipines,Australia).
- Direct client facing tech consulting role.
- Leadership role in current job.
- Continued career growth in a planned manner leading to my MBA without conflicting engagements.
It would be great if you could advise me on the following points:
> Identify strengths/weaknesses in profile;rate my self evaluation as briefly described above.
> Schools i can start to look into for applications.(I am already working on it, but your inputs on the same would be of great help!)

Hey there good sir!
So let's get started!
The Good stuff:
- Your international work experience (yeah, you knew this one was coming) - this is your most unique and interesting aspect of your profile, so play it up!
- Your grades - nice GPA, dude!
The Challenges:
- Indian/Male/Tech from a non-IIT school
- Little leadership
Your GMAT is all in all very good, but may not be high enough for Top 10 schools. And for your volunteer work, other than that CSR initiative I didn't see anything mentioned, so I'm wondering if you have some more cards up your sleeve???
Overall, I would guess that your "Sweet spot" for application would be schools ranked about 10-30, and from those you should choose a range schools that appeal to you in terms of fit, location, teaching style, etc.
It's great that you have that International experience, because like I wrote it's something that really shines, so use it when you apply!

Thank you very much for responding to my request.
As for volunteer work i have few other things i can use,but not much.So i need to work on this aspect of my application.
Also, i agree with you on the school range(10-30) i should target.I have been looking through the websites of some schools to come up with a draft list of colleges to apply to.As of now this is what i have: (Btw, i am filtering out schools based on my post MBA goal of Consulting)
Very ambitious:
- INSEAD
- Kellog
Ambitious but might be able to hack it given the right inputs and stellar apps:
- Duke
- Ross
- Darden
- Tepper
Within reach:
- Goizuetta
- Kelly
- McCombs
Can you please comment on this draft list i have prepared. For all i know, i may be completely off in my perception of the difficulty of getting into these schools.
