Ross vs UNC Kenan-Flalger (Full ride)

Question

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to help me. I need your advice on this very critical decision!

I have been admitted to Michigan Ross (no scholarship) and UNC's Kenan Flagler (full ride). I am an Indian candidate, and interested in a career in consulting or non-IB finance. Hoping for a placement either in NY or California.

The points that matter to me in both schools are:
Program and course structure
Placements
Return on Investment
People and culture
Learning experience
Brand value (in and outside US)

It would be great to know your views on this! If you think of some important criteria I should have considered, please feel free to add.

Go to Ross.

In terms of consulting, you will have a far better chance at Ross, since it is a target school for most if not all the major consulting firms (and boutique firms as well). Keep in mind that consulting firms spend most of their efforts (and hire most of their incoming associates) from the top 16 schools.

Yes, UNC is giving you a free ride, but Ross will give you a much better shot of getting you that consulting job offer that you may want.

Thank you for your advice Alex. 
Apart from the placements, what are your views on the difference in brand value of the 2 schools? In terms of reputation internationally as well as in the US?
Also, how would you rate the alumni network of both on a scale of 10?

I get a sense of what you're trying to do, but you can't really evaluate schools like you would with flat screen TVs at the Best Buy (a checklist of things where you grade/quantify everything in terms of specs).

Again, if your goal for going to b-school is getting the job you want, focus on recruiting as the main thing. And as I said before, none of the other factors matter all that much if one school can give you a much better chance of getting you the job you want.

As I said, it's quite simple - go to Ross if you're focused on consulting recruiting.
