Round 1 2023 : Query on Short term goals

Hi Admissions Experts

As a candidate from a highly representative pool(India engineer), does selecting a particular short-term goal result in a direct rejection? This is excluding any other factors like profile, GMAT, or negative aspect of the candidate.

Example - A CPG Brand Management candidate has almost no chance of getting H1B sponsorship(as per GMATCLUB articles).Hence colleges would not admit a student since it might have an impact on the College employment statistics

Yes, it does because if they think you’re going to be chasing something that’s not possible for your internship, and also that they will not be able to help you achieve your dreams, it’s bad juju all the way on top of rankings. Your example is an excellent one. Sponsorship is usually most possible for tech, consulting and finance.

Yes, that might a rejection. Your task is to move beyond these obvious or uninspiring motivations to goals that business schools will find interesting.
Think of your post MBA career not as a destination but as an evolving narrative and take a hint from the short and long-term language often included in the B school's goals questions to map out a career trajectory that evolves over time. Goals defined and schools selected, you can now begin to map your goals essay.

Sorry for the delayed response but hope this finds you in time still.

Business schools would want to see any student as their success story and it will always be difficult for international students to find jobs in brand management. Thus, the goals you go ahead with it should be feasible; at the same time, though, they should sync with your overall story.

In short, yes, you may face rejection if the school feels that you may not find a suitable employer.
