Hi Linda,

I applied to seven schools in R2 this year, and got interviews from 4 and waiting for two more decisions (stanford and CBS ( I submitted a bit late))

I am international candidate with an engineering degree from and IVY school with 3.60. and 730 gmat. I have 2 years of investment banking exp. and several ECs.

My concern is that I think that my interviews did not go quite well. (one of them was a phone interview and I think I could not explain my self for several parts)

anyways, my first question is that how much does the interview matter? assuming I did worse than the majority of other interviewees do you think this will be the sole reason for a ding?

I believe that as I got 4 interviews from top schools my overall application package was good right? so if I apply next year in r1 I think I will have a shot? or should I rush now and apply to 2-3 schools?

I do think that your application to the 4 schools at which you were invited to interview were good, yes. But those that didn't invite you seem to think you were not a good fit. If you feel otherwise, it would make sense for a professional to assess those applications to see where they weren't aligned.
I don't think that round 3 makes sense for this year unless you are a "rare" applicant; however, I have seen a nice correlation between an unsuccessful round 3 application and a successful round 1 application the following year. So if there is a school that you would really like to attend next year, it may make sense to apply in round 3 this year (when you have time to concentrate on the one application and do an excellent job on it), and then be able to complete a shortened re-application there next year (when you will be busy with multiple applications). Obviously, this is only worthwhile if you do not gain an offer from one of your top choices this year.
