Thanks for your help Rich...I'll start by answering the questions:

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)?
I didn't write the Essay on any CATs save for the last 2. One on the MGMAT CAT and one on GMATPrep.
2) Did you take them at home?
I took all my practice tests at home. Being my dad's caregiver unfortunately doesn't allow me to take my CATs somewhere else.
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT?
Save for the first 2, I took the rest at the same time as my GMAT.
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)? No. I did have to pause briefly to wipe my scratchpad when I ran out of space.
5) Did you take any of these CATs more than once?
Yes. Since this was my second attempt, I'd taken some CATs before and I'll admit I remembered most verbal questions. However, I didn't recall even a single quant question since my previous attempt 7 months ago. So I'm certain my quant score was true to my ability.

Reflecting back on my test experience yesterday, there was something that did rattle me and I'm certain I got at least 2 quant questions wrong because of that. The staff at the test center that I went to was hugely incompetent. I suffer from a disc bulge and have to use a lower back support pillow when sitting for long hours. A support pillow is a pre-approved item by the GMAC. I took my pillow with me to use during the test but the staff at the center wouldn't allow me. I even showed them a print from the MBA.com website but they said they'll have to check with Pearson.

They got on the phone and then asked to inspect my pillow. The pillow has a zipper at the back which wouldn't open and they asked me to open it. I struggled with it for 5 minutes but it was completely stuck. I ultimately asked for scissors and cut it open to show them there's nothing inside. They finally allowed me to take it with me and I consequently started the test 20 minutes later than my scheduled time.

At the end of IR section when I was on the last question, I asked for a new scratchpad wanting to start with a fresh one for the quant section. The proctor argued that he can't give me a new one unless I fill this one completely. Already agitated with them, I said "says who?" He then gave me a new pad after which I left for my break. Coming back, I still was kinda rattled and the first quant question just didn't make any sense to me. I knew it was an easy question but my mind just wouldn't work.

Then when I was on my last question for the quant section, I ran out of room on the scratchpad and asked for a new one. I had 1 min 40 seconds left. The same proctor came in and took my old scratchpad. But before handing me the new one, he said "let me check if this one is filled completely or not." He took his time doing so and finally handed me a new pad with 1:15 remaining on the clock. This rattled and agitated me again and I'm certain I got that last question wrong.

Save for the above, I don't think there was anything else unexpected at the test. I wasn't overly nervous either.

Thank you for your suggestion on getting advice from admission consultants. I think discussing my situation with them would help in deciding whether to apply with my present score or consider another retake.

I just don't understand what happened. I'm pretty sure if I did another practice test, I'd score at least 40 in quant. On the test, I felt I was getting questions right but I kept on getting really easy questions so obviously something wasn't right. I really don't know what to make of this and what to do going forward. Do I even have a shot at my target programs with a score such as this (especially the low quant score?)

Needless to say, I'm pretty dejected and feel kinda lost. Not sure what the right way ahead is. My target schools are European 1-year programs such as IE, ESADE, SDA Bocconi.

Should I even consider another retake? If so, how do I prepare to ensure the quant section doesn't pull down my score again?
This is exactly the kind of situation in which students should keep going (if they want a higher score). Firstly, don't focus on calling this a retake and asking yourself whether you should retake again. Going "I took the exam again. Should I take it again, again?" isn't particularly helpful here. I've gone through your other thread, and your practice test scores seem to be significantly higher this time around. If I were you, I'd just be asking myself whether that 35 is representative of what I'm capable of, and whether I need a higher score.

For what it's worth, I think that if you can get a 42 on verbal, you can definitely do better than a 35 on quant. I don't believe that some people are just not cut out for quant or that they are just amazing at verbal. Take a hard look at the questions you've been solving. Ask yourself whether you need to work harder on your concepts. If you do, and you want to take the GMAT again, put that effort in. You've gone through the "Share GMAT Experience" section, and you already know the answer to whether everyone gets his or her target score within two attempts.

Thanks AjiteshArun. You make some valid points there. As for my quant score, I'm certain that 35 isn't reflective of my ability. I believe I can hit 40 in my present state of prep and with some luck on my side, can even reach around 45. I'm way more solid on concepts this time around though I'll admit there are certain topics that are somewhat shaky for me (coordinate geometry, combinatorics/probability). If I do consider another attempt, how should I go about my quant prep? Needless to say, I really wanna avoid a low quant score pulling down my score again.

Thank you...

That's just... unbelievable. In the sense that it's a terrible approach for them to take. Which test center was this? I've seen and heard of some bad practices, but here it looks as if the proctor was trying to make a point, and was willing to do it during an important exam.

Yeah I believe so too. It was pretty preposterous on their part. This was at the Pearson center in Yusuf Sarai, New Delhi. I intend to complain about this to Pearson. The overall attitude and incompetence of the staff there was shocking.
I did my first GMAT in Burnaby, BC and had no problems whatsoever with the center. I was hoping for a similar experience this time but of course it was totally the opposite.
