I worked with Critical Square, mainly Bhavik, to prepare for my first two interviews at Booth and Kellogg in R1 this year. The service was excellent, and the preparation really helped me in my interviews. I got into both Booth and Kellogg, in addition to a third top-5 school. I am writing this review because Critical Square did a great job and because I really enjoyed working with Bhavik, something that not many people can say about their admission consultants.
I had previously worked with another admission consulting company to prepare my applications and already had interview invites from a few highly-ranked schools. I was not very satisfied with that first experience, however. The consultant seemed to be working with a very fixed formula (often did not really listen to what I had to say) and was constantly looking for ways to charge me extra. I thus decided to look elsewhere for interview preparation and found Critical Square. Reading the description of their “Interview Prep” service on their website, I could tell that they were reasonable and honest people (the website gave the price for 1-, 2-, and 3-school packages but said that the most common choice is the 1-school package!). After reading great reviews on GMAT Club and a few other places, I decided to contact them. This was perhaps the best decision I made throughout my MBA application journey.
I had just started preparing for interviews and did not have my stories straight. I wanted to get as much practice and feedback as possible, so Critical Square’s system with two mock interview sessions and detailed feedback in the middle looked interesting to me. I contacted Bhavik to set up my practice sessions for Booth, and he got back to me within minutes. He was very flexible with time and said he would make himself available on evenings and weekends if needed, something that worked perfectly for me. Bhavik allowed me to completely customize the preparation. I asked for a third mock interview session focused on Kellogg, and he organized that with a Kellogg graduate at a reasonable price. Given that all of my real interviews would be conducted in-person, I also asked Bhavik that we do the final mock interview session in-person in Chicago on the Sunday before my Booth interview (which was on Monday). He accepted without asking for any extra charge.
Details of my customized package: The first session was with Bhavik over Skype. He asked me many tough non-school-specific questions for about 30-40 minutes and then gave me a short verbal feedback. The next day, he sent me a longer written feedback with detailed comments for every questions, along with a list of common questions and great instructions to properly structure my responses. I found this material very useful as I worked on my answers. Within the next few days, I reviewed my answers to a few of the key questions with Bhavik via email, and every time he got back to me quickly and patiently. The second session was a few days later, over Skype with a Kellogg graduate, and focused mainly on Kellogg interview preparation. Amit, the interviewer, stayed on for an extra 20-30 minutes and gave me a lot of useful feedback. The third session was in-person with Bhavik and focused mainly on Booth interview preparation. Again, Bhavik stayed for an extra 30 minutes or so and gave me detailed feedback on every aspect of my performance, from the content and organization of my answers to my tone, eye and hand movements, and posture. He even bought me coffee and walked with me to the subway station!
Overall, I really liked every part of my experience with Critical Square and strongly recommend it to every MBA applicant. Thanks Bhavik and Amit for all the help.
