Hi
CJHu ..
I am not a consultant but would like to share my view:
Congratulations for getting into 2 of the top 30 MBA programs. Your age is on the upper limit of avg. for US schools. I would be careful and consult before declining these offers. I do not know which schools you got into. I am sure that you have researched well on them and you know that they can help you to achieve your goals.
1. You are targeting schools whose average score is 20 points above
2. You mentioned your work ex. is not exceptional
3. You belong from over represented pool of Asians
4. Your age is 29
5. You want to transition from Operations to E-commerce
6. You need scholarship
Unfortunately, I can say from above points that it will be too tough to get into top B-schools. Sorry
, I am not demotivating you but giving you a realistic reply on your profile and desire. However, there is no harm in applying to top 15 schools. You never know what can/will happen. Re-take can be thoughtful if you will score 750+ and take some leadership/exceptional roles.
Apart from above, you can be realistic at this moment by checking with current students/alumni of the schools you got into. Research well if you can still achieve your goals from those schools. If yes, then you are good to go All the best

Hi Consultants,
I'm 29 years old now and I want to start my MBA at 30. I scored 700 in my first GMAT attempt in Sep and applied to 2 top 30 MBA programs in US (just got the admits with some sort of scholarship recently). However, my goal is to attend top 15 MBA, so I just gave another test and got a disappointed 700 again this week, while in my mock tests I scored 720-740. The average score of these schools are ~ 720 so I'm a little bit disadvantaged applying into those schools with this score. My work experience is also not outstanding so I guess cannot compensate for my low GMAT. I work as a Marketing Manager in a Consumer Products company in a South East Asian country, and hope to leverage the MBA to transition to Operations in a tech company like Amazon after MBA. So should I enroll for the 2020 class or wait for another year to apply when I can score higher on my GMAT? Is starting MBA at 30 and 31 different, especially when I want to change my career track? Of course I can apply to top 15 MBA now and hope to get the admit but the chance of getting scholarship is pretty low with my background that I cannot afford.
Hope to receive your feedback. Many thanks!
