Hi . I recently gave the gmat a few days back and scored a decent 720 .
I am an Indian with 3.5 years of experience with an IT firm. I graduated with my B.Tech in ECE with a GPA of 6.5 in 2011.
I have a few months before I can start applying to different colleges for 2016-18 Batch. So I have some time to strengthen my CV. Now to the main question , I have always had an interest in Finance ( also do a lot of investment in shares) and feel like giving a shot at CFA level 1 in June. Now I am wondering if it is going to be of any help on my CV . Also the fee is too high at 850$ so I really want to give a good thought before paying up for the paper
Do you think that giving the CFA will be of any help to me ? I'd want to have a job in some financial domain post MBA . But because I realize it's going to be really tough for me given my background , I may look at a job as an IT consultant.
Sorry If i sound too confused , but the truth is I really am confused

No, taking the CFA Level 1 exam is not going to help you. Focus on getting your MBA first. The harsh reality is the majority of Indian applicants are engineers with high GPA's, GMAT scores, and professional certifications (like the CFA) and they get rejected. Save your time and money and focus on being a leader in nonprofessional activities, such as community service or recreational sports. This will make you stand out over the other applicants. Your CV already shows that you are a strong learner; now you need to show that you can be a leader.

A CFA level 1 can have a marginally positive impact on your profile. It would never likely be the make-or-break factor, but every positive factor counts for something.
The keys to making it really work for you as much as possible are, not to just list it on your resume but also, in your essays, where possible (a) discuss that you’re taking the initiative to do it because it’s connected to your goals – and if your Plan B is IT consulting, show how the CFA knowledge could even benefit you in that role; (b) discuss the learning/growth you gained from the exercise—show how it enhanced your business perspective and understanding. If you do these things, it will allow you to get the most out of the effort and investment.
