It has been a few weeks since I submitted my application and the application cycle closed and I haven't heard anything yet. I know it hasn't been that long but should I call to ask my status? Would this make it look like I really want it and put me on their radar? Or would it be seen as pestering them?

Lol, everyone is on the same boat mate. 
If you call them, it won't cause any issue nor help you show your interests.
You will get the response, "Thank you for calling us. You will hear from us on or before the deadline date."
So, no worth.
