If I was WL with Interview R1 and the update on April 1 says I'm still on the waitlist, should I assume I'm going to be placed back in the pool of applicants to be reviewed for R2?

I'm not sure. I thought April 1st was the acceptance notification date for R2 applicants ... so my understanding is at that point they will accept some of the R1 people off the waitlist that met the calibre of the overall people that applied in R1 and R2. Then my guess is they will add any additional R2 waitlisted candidates to the overall waitlist pool, and cull it down to a manageable level (reject some candidates). Then wait for the May 1st deposit date before they start getting a clear picture of how many offers they can send out.

Good luck everyone! Let's hope all those random endorsements and updates come through for us in 4 days =p

R2 says May 1st not April 1st on the Gmat club forums for some reason. But you're right it says The Admissions Committee notifies applicants of their decision by** Fri, December 20, 2013 Tue, April 1, 2014 on the website.

Application Date Decision Date
R1 2013-09-24 2013-12-20
R2 2014-01-07 2014-05-01

Way too few to get excited ;)
Historically maybe 1/4 max. 1/3 (someone from the GMAT-Club posted a video not too long ago...)
And I have a feeling that this year at Sloan its lower since they changed their deadlines, put quite a bunch of people on the WL, etc.

It varies every year. A couple years ago they took no one because the class was oversubscribed. Last year, they took a few. In this chat transcript from 2007 (https://www.accepted.com/chat/transcript ... 7_mit.aspx), it mentions a 1/3 of the waitlisted candidates were accepted.

But if I had to place any bets, I'd tend to say the same as Felix--I think this year will be tough. I have no numbers to back this up, but it seems like this year, applications were up.

I'm expecting to hear back today whether I'm still waitlisted, denied, or admitted - is that right?

But till now... nothing?
Even the lucky R2 "normal" applicants havn´t heard anything.
I remember last time (R1) Sloan started to call people quite early in the morning... So why the change

Dinged. A bit surprised about that since I had sent 2 more recs and provided a considerable work update. Oh well, c'est la vie!

Same here. I will be reapplying next year. I will have time to prepare and reflect on where I came short.
TO those still in the WL, patience!!! And keep at it.

Cheers,
