Find an Expression Equivalent to the one below

(0.3667)(0.8333)(0.3333)
_____________________
(0.4444)(0.6667)(0.125)

a) 2.00
b) 2.40
c) 2.45
d) 2.75
e) 2.80

I get B - 2.40.

This one is tricky. I would first start out with what you know:

  • \(\frac{1}{3} = .3333\)
  • \(\frac{2}{3} = .6667\)
  • \(\frac{1}{8} = .125\)
  • \(\frac{5}{6} = .8333\)
  • \(\frac{1}{8} = .125\)
  • \(\frac{4}{9} = .4444\)

.3667 is tough because there is no easy fraction (at least for me) that pops off the top of my head. After some staring though, you can see that \(.3667 = .1667 + .20000\) or \(.3667 = \frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{5} = \frac{11}{30}\).

Multiplying and simplifying we are left with:

\(\frac{(11)(5)(9)(3)(8)}{(30)(6)(3)(4)(2)} = \frac{11}{4} = 2.40\) (using long division)

11/4 = 2.75

ha good catch - stupid mistake there...
