Hi guys,
Just reading through your profiles, I am fairly impressed with the dedication and efforts all of you put into your studies. This should make for a great class of 2017/2019!
Anyway, so I have applied to the M.Sc. in Finance/ IM track (Jan 15th deadline) with the following profile:
- 2 bachelor degrees (Economics & Business Administration) from non-target EMU unis (GPA: ~3.3/4.0)
- Passed CFA Level 1
- GRE: 163 (quant only)
- Toefl: not released yet, but was aiming for 110+
- University tutor for 3rd semester students & head of fixed income at the uni's investment club
- 4 markets internships (incl. 1x London & 1x New York), 3 months each
- 1x reference from my MD in London
- 1.5 years as an assistant portfolio manager at the worlds' largest reinsurance company
As the first admission round's results are already available, I am thrilled to learn more about the program's admission criteria.

Hi you guys,
So here's my profile:
GMAT 710 (Q49 V37)
Bachelor's: 2:1 BSc in Mathematics & Economics (London School of Economics)
Working experience: Central Bank of Malaysia (a little over 3.5 years so far)
Languages (both speaking and writing): Fluent in English, Mandarin and Malay. Beginner in Swedish
Volunteer experience: 4 weeks in Kenya as a volunteer teacher (summer 2011) and volunteer tutor from 2010 to 2012 in London
In my motivation essay, I didn't specifically write about any course. In fact, I used the same essay for both MSc Finance and MSc Accounting and Financial Management.
I spoke mostly about why I want to study in Stockholm, more specifically about my interest in transitioning into the fintech startup line of business. I also linked that to my interest in developmental economics, i.e. how financial innovations can help resolve problems in the developing world such as lack of access to financial infrastructure, financial illiteracy etc. I ended with how i think an SSE education can help me achieve my long term goals.

Obviously I had to open the email and I got declined. Irregardless of the GMAT score.
I did indeed apply to the MIB instead of Finance, sorry for that.
The rejection was based on motivation, GPA and international experience.
For your information, this is my quite elaborated profile with CV (I left out the interest and skills haha!
) Honestly, I was a little surprised I did not even make it through the first screening. But hey, competition is tough!
Good luck to all of you! You have outstanding profiles and I'm sure that, with such perseverance and dedication, all of you will accomplish great things; whether it will be with a degree from SSE or without.

It's really a shame! I can't get the evaluation criterion of SSE's admissions office. I am also applying for the MIB program for 2017 intake and they informed me to join a Skype interview on 28 Feb. Honestly, we share very similar profile. I am wondering if you have shown enough interest for the MIB program in your motivation letter. That's the only reason, as I see, that they rejected your application... My profile below:
GPA 3.65/4.00 (Ranking no.1 in the whole program) majoring in political sciences in a uni in HK
one year exchange in Sciences Po
GMAT 720 Q50 V37
Fluent Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese), English, French (C1), Italian (B2), passed CFA level I
VP for 2 student associations, a lot of voluntary activities, uni academic merit scholarship and some other minor honour
2 years working experience in a multinational company.
BTW, does anyone know what kind of questions will be asked during the interview?
